I am preparing for gate (civil).i would like to get some suggestions on which books should i follow and on which chapters/subjects should i lay more stress on.please suggest me books having many solved examples.

hi niranjan,
it is very nice that you are going to appear for GATE.
coming to the point, you please refer the book for GATE by G.K.Publication. it is well suited book for whole study a lot of essential basic theory as well as many no. of problems.
after that you go for a book by HUNDA. it is also a quality book.it also covers your GATE preparation.
fine, remember, at a time you go for only one book. first you go for G.K. & then for HUNDA.avoid using both at a time. manage your time for both.
also go through previous year question papers.
talking about chapters/subjects to lay down, it is completely depends on you. you find yourself, in which part of your syllabus you are strong. if you can't find, go for your interesting part of your studies & make them as your stronger side. this is the key point for your success in GATE exam.
so, prepare well !

G.K publication book is only good for its questions. the theory part contains a lot of mistakes in it. If you intend to do problems rather than studying, then this is the book for you.

Else, prefer " Khanna publication book".
also refer to Civil Engineering: Objective Type for G.A.T.E
