But if you want to appear for IES, then you are not eligible, as only eligible candidates for IES are Electrical, Mechanical, Civil & Ece students. And also for CSE exam, you cannot opt for Computer science as one subject because it is not listed in optionals provided by UPSC. But its not like that you are not eligible for CSE, you can opt for some other subjects of your interest . Other than these you have to select two language papers also. You need to start your preparation one year in advance so as to cover both the optionals . You can apply for this exam, either in final year or after that. Re: Can a B.Tech CSE student be eligible for IAS/IES exam?
You can definitely apply for the Indian Administrative Service but not for the Indian Engineering Service. Unfortunately B.Tech graduates who have completed the course in Computer Science stream are not eligible for Indian Engineering Service.
However there will be no such issue if applying for the Indian Administrative Service. The requirement for IAS only is a graduation degree. Since you have completed B.Tech, it makes you eligible for the entrance exam by Union Public Service Commission. I would recommend that you apply for the Indian Administrative Service. Apart from that since you have completed B.Tech, Public Sector Undertaking is also a very good option for you. But to apply for job in PSU you must have minimum of 60 percent marks in Bachelor of Technology. IAS Eligibility 1. Candidate should be Indian national. 2. Bachelor degree in any discipline. 3. Age limit is 21 to 30 years. 4. upto 3 years of relaxation in upper age limit for OBC. 5. SC/ST also get upto 5 years of relaxation in upper age limit. Exam Pattern 1) Preliminary Exam 2) Main Exam 3) Interview Public Sector Undertaking Eligibility 1. Only candidates of Indian origin can apply. 2. B.Tech degree from any recognized university. 3. Minimum of 60 percent marks in it. 4. You should not have any pending backlogs. 5. You may also require a valid GATE score. 6. The age limit is 21 to 30 years. 7. Three years relaxation in upper age limit for OBC. 8. Five years relaxation for SC and ST. |

Sir... There are two information about your query, one is a good & another is a bad news. Both examinations wants at least a graduation degree, but the IES (INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICE) required a engineering degree in any of the MECHANICAL , ELECTRICAL, ELECTRONICS & CIVIL ENGINEERING .. On the other hand, IAS (INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE) requires atleast a graduation degree in any stream but from a recognized college. Although, both examinations are conducted by the UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION (UPSC). , so you are totally eligible for the CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION, through which one can apply for the INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE & POLICE SERVICE (IAS/IPS).. But not for the IES EXAMINATION. This civil service examination has three stages to be clear, in order to become a IAS/IPS ... [/COLOR][/I][/I][/B][/B] 1. CSAT (CIVIL SERVICE APTITUDE TEST) 2.
