Merchant navy is one of the most challenging jobs of the globe. You have to be little bit adventurous as well as courageous. India is having wide scope for merchant navy studies.

Height is not a factor in merchant navy, and 5.5 is a good height. Only you should be physically fit in all respect.

The various requirements for merchant navy course are:-

Education qualification:- 10+2 or equivalent with physics and maths subjects, from any recognized board.

Physical standards:- Must be physically fit in all respects. Eye sight must be 6/6 in both eyes with no colour blindness or other type of eye disorder.

5.5 inches is good height you are eligible for navy . If you have atleast 60% in the class 12th and have capacity to clear the nda exam taken by upsc twice in a year then you will join merchant navy. It is a difficult task because if you clear the test then you have to face interview and medical. You age must be 18 to 27 year for this exam. Relaxation of age for the reserved category student.
