To join as an lecturer in universities/Colleges recognized by University Grant Commission, qualifying National Eligibility Test or the State Lectureship Eligibility Test is mandatory. These tests are conducted by University Grant Commission and the only difference between the two is that candidate who qualified National Eligibility Test are eligible to apply for post of lecturer in universities and college all over India whereas, those who qualify State Lectureship Eligibility Test are eligible to apply for the same position but only in universities and college located in the particular state from which the test is given.

In order to be eligible for these tests, one must have completed Masters Degree program in any discipline and must have scored a minimum of 55% in the qualifying examination. The required percentage of marks is relaxed upto 5% for candidates belonging to SC/ST category.

So, if you have scored the required percentage of marks, you can take the test irrespective of the year in which you completed your masters degree program. There is no maximum age limit to take the test for lectureship.

Since the test is conducted by University Grant Commission, refer to its official website for further information.

You can apply for lectureship even if completed the post graduation all the way back in 2008. But to do so you will have to appear for the National Eligibility Test. Without appearing for the entrance exam, you are not going to get selected in government colleges.

The National Eligibility Test is conducted by the University Grants Commission for lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship. You will be able to appear for it in June and December however only if meet the following criteria.

NET Eligibility

1. You should have Indian citizenship.

2. Must have completed post graduation from UGC recognized college.

3. Your marks in post graduation should be minimum of 55 percent.

4. There is 5% relaxation for SC and ST.

5. No marks relaxation for OBC is given.

6. Even candidates during the final year of PG studies can appear for it.

7. But they are required to submit degree in 2 years.

8. Subject for NET will depend on your master's degree.

9. The age limit for JRF is 19 to 28 years.

10. Age limit for OBC is 19 to 31 years.

11. For SC/ST the age limit is 19 to 33 years.

12. For lectureship there is no upper age limit.

13. There is also no limit on number of attempts for NET exam.

Dear W0rd,

To become a lecturer , you need to appear in the National Eligibility Test. As the University Grants Commission conducts the NET Exam twice every year for the selection of candidates for the following posts :

a) Lecturer

b) Junior Research Fellowship

Since you have completed M.A. in English Literature in the year 2008 , you have to check a few things to ensure that whether you are eligible to apply for the National Eligibility Test or not.

The University Grants Commission has set some eligibility criteria so that only those candidates can apply for the above mentioned posts who fulfill these criteria completely.

The Eligibility Criteria for National Eligibility Test are :

** The candidate must have completed post graduation in any stream from any recognized university.

** The candidate must have secured a minimum of 55% marks in post graduation.

** A relaxation of 5% marks is given to SC and ST Candidates.

** No Relaxation in marks is given to OBC Candidates and they remain same as that of the General Candidates.

** The Age Limitation applies only for the post of JRF as there is no age limit for the post of Lectureship.

** The Age Limit for the post of JRF is 21--28 years.

** 3 years relaxation in upper age is given to OBC Candidates.

** 5 years relaxation in upper age is given to SC/ST candidates.

** The candidate must be an Indian Citizen.

** There is also no fixed number of attempts for this exam.

So , from the above mentioned its quite clear that if you have completed M.A. in English Literature with a minimum of 55% marks , only then you can apply for the National Eligibility Test , considering that you are a General Category Candidate.

This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.

Yes off course you're eligible to apply Lecturer job after Completing M.A in English Literature course, There is no issue with you're educational qualification. But, you have to qualified in NET/ SLET Entrance Examination in order to become a lecturer.

NET/SLET Entrance Examination is necessary to get Lecturer job. Without qualified in NET/SLET Entrance Examination you can't get lecturer Job. So, I suggest you to apply for NET/ SLET Entrance Examination after Completing you're master degree course.

NET stands for National Eligibility Test and SLET stands for State Level Eligibility Test.

NET Entrance Examination is conducted by University Grants Commission for every twice in a year and this Entrance Examination conduct both the lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship.

The candidate who qualified in NET Entrance Examination are eligible to get lecturer job in any state in India and The candidate who qualified in SELT Entrance Examination are eligible to get lecturer within the particular state.

Candidates with Master Degree in any discipline from recognized university are eligible to apply for this Entrance Examination and the candidate need to secure minimum 55% Percentage of marks in master degree course.

Final semester appearing candidate may also eligible to apply for this Entrance Examination and But, the candidate didn't having any arrears in previous semester.

Applicant should be an Indian Citizen and the candidate age should be Minimum 19 years to 28 years in order to appear in Research Fellowship and Upper age relaxation will be applicable for sc/st candidates and obc candidates.

No age limit required for lectureship, So, any candidate with qualified in Master degree course are eligible to apply for Lectureship.

::Suggestion::

NET Entrance Examination is mandatory in order to become a lecturer. So, I suggest you to apply for NET Entrance Examination. If you are qualified in NET Entrance Examination with qualified. Notification for this Entrance Examination released in Employment news paper and Official website of UGC.
