Hello friend,
Candidates have to select two optional papers out of the following list Agriculture Mathematics, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Mechanical Engineering, Botany, Medical Science, Chemistry, Philosophy, Civil Engineering, Physics, Commerce,Political Science ,Economics ,Psychology Electrical Engineering Public Administration, Geography, Sociology, Geology, Statistics, Indian History, Zoology,Law. Following combination of subjects are not allowed: Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration Commerce and Management Anthropology and Sociology Maths and Statistics Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science Management and Public Administration Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science Any two branches of engineering Now, candidates are allowed to select any two optional papers,except the combination of subjects mentioned above. |

The main examination of civil services will comprise of following papers. 1. Essay type Indian Language Qualifying Paper (300 marks) 2. English Qualifying Paper (300 marks) 3. General Essay type paper (200 marks) 4. General Studies (Paper-I & II 300 marks each) 5. Optional subject-I(Paper-I & II 300 marks each) 6. Optional subject-II(Paper-I&II 300 marks each) You have complete freedom to choose any two subjects from the listed 25 subjects. There is no connection between your choice and your Graduation subject. You are totally free to choose subjects for the examination. List of optional subjects for Main Examination. Agriculture Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science Anthropology Botany Chemistry Civil Engineering Commerce and Accountancy Economics Electrical Engineering Geography Geology History Law Management Mathematics Mechanical Engineering Medical Science Philosophy Physics Political Science and International Relations Psychology Public Administration Sociology Statistics Zoology For any further query you can see the Civil Services-2011 advertisement. |

UPSC has a long list of subjects to taken from almost covering all fields.
But subject selection depends on your interest. You will have to select two optional from these: Agriculture Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science Botany Chemistry Civil Engineering Commerce Economics Electrical Engineering Geography Geology Indian History Law Mathematics Management Mechanical Engineering Medical Science Philosophy Physics Political Science Psychology Public Administration Sociology Statistics Zoology Anthropology |

Civil Services Exam is the common written exam for the candidates to be placed in various civil services like
IAS IPS IFS etc. One should have to opt for one optional subject for Civil Services Main Exam from the below list of available optional subjects for Main Exam.
