I want to know each minute detail of proceeding towards I.A.S exam including eligibility criteria,syllabus,subjects,attempts............... I am persuing B.tech and its been my 3rd year with computer science engineering........ please guide.....

Every year UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts Civil Services Examination for recruitment in following services. -Indian Administrative Service(IAS) -Indian Foreign Service. -Indian Police Service. -Indian P & T Accounts & Finance Service, Group ‘A’. -Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Group ‘A’. -Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise), Group ‘A’. -Indian Defence Accounts Service, Group ‘A’. -Indian Revenue Service (I.T.), Group ‘A’. -Indian Ordnance Factories Service, Group ‘A’ (Assistant Works Manager, Administration). -Indian Postal Service, Group ‘A’. -Indian Civil Accounts Service, Group ‘A’. -Indian Railway Traffic Service, Group ‘A’. -Indian Railway Accounts Service, Group 'A'. -Indian Railway Personnel Service, Group ‘A’. -Post of Assistant Security Commissioner in Railway Protection Force, Group ‘A’ -Indian Defence Estates Service, Group ‘A’. -Indian Information Service (Junior Grade), Group ‘A’. -Indian Trade Service, Group 'A' (Gr. III). -Indian Corporate Law Service, Group "A". -Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Service, Group ‘B’ (Section Officer’s Grade). -Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli Civil Service, Group 'B'. -Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & -Nagar Haveli Police Service, Group 'B'. -Pondicherry Civil Service, Group 'B'. -Pondicherry Police Service, Group 'B'. The scheme of the examination is as under; The whole examination is conducted in two stages. 1. Preliminary Examination This is also called Civil Services Aptitude Test and is common test for all applicants. This cotains questions from General studies(History, Geography, Politics, Economics and social development, General Science), English, Mathematical Aptitude etc. 2. Main Examination and Interview Those who qualify Preliminary exam are called for Main exam and on the basis of marks in Main exam, candidates are called for Interview. The total marks of Main exam and Interview are sum up to produce final result. The selected students are appointed to a particular service on the basis of their merit rank and choice of service(s). The Main examination will contain following papers 1. Essay type Indian Language Qualifying Paper (300 marks) 2. English Qualifying Paper (300 marks) 3. General Essay type paper (200 marks) 4. General Studies (Paper-I & II 300 marks each) 5. Optional subject-I(Paper-I & II 300 marks each) 6. Optional subject-II(Paper-I&II 300 marks each) The subject for optional paper are as under. You can choose any two of them. The choice is completely yours. Agriculture Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science Anthropology Botany Chemistry Civil Engineering Commerce and Accountancy Economics Electrical Engineering Geography Geology History Law Management Mathematics Mechanical Engineering Medical Science Philosophy Physics Political Science and International Relations Psychology Public Administration Sociology Statistics Zoology But following combinations of two optional subjects are not permissible - Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration; - Commerce & Accountancy and Management; - Anthropology and Sociology; - Mathematics and Statistics; - Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science. - Management and Public Administration; - Any two engineering subjects - Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science. You should obtain the syllabus of these subjects from www.upsc.gov.in The eligibility criteria for the exam is; Education: Graduation in any stream from a recognized university. (No percentage criteria) Age Limit: 21-30 years (GEN category students) 21-33 years (OBC - Non Creamy layer category students) 21-35 years (Sc/ST/PH category students) Detailed eligibility criteria is made available in the notification of the exam. |

IAS (Indian Administrative Services) is basically for those who are firmly determined for dedication of themselves towards the own country.
Application forms will come out in the month of January. According to the new exam pattern of the IAS exam 1) General-Studies paper which carries 150 marks 2) Optional paper which carries 150 marks. Eligibility Criteria :- 1.Educational Qualification:To appear in IAS exam you should have a Graduation degree in any stream from a recognize University. If you are in final year you can also eligible to apply for the examination. 2.Age:The age must be between 21 to 30 years at the time of appearing of this examination. No.Of Attemptes: General Candidates - 4 Attempts OBC Candidates - 7 Attempts SC/ST Candidates - No Limits.
