after diploma mechanical engg.can i apply for deck cadet and what is the procedre.and what other course i can do except b.tech.

yes you can apply for deck cadet and the procedure is very simple wait for the forms and notification and then when it comes fill it after which you will have to pass through a written exam and medical test, after that an interveiw and you will be in..
regarding any other course you can go for many advanced diploma courses of your intrests..

Mechanical Engineering Correspondence Degree Courses are conducted by ... Candidates who have secured a diploma in engineering (relevant branch) from Andhra

If you have passed class XII examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and have secured an aggregate of 60% marks and are below 20 years, you are eligible.
In case of candidates with a B.Sc. degree, passed with PCM subjects, they should be below that age of 22 years, to be eligible.

Eligiblity Creteria to become a Deck cadet -

Successful completion of 12th Std exams with minimum 55% aggregate in
PCM and 50% in English.

Date of Birth - on or after 1st January 1986.

Qualified in the Indian Maritime University (IMU) CET.

Medically fit as per standards laid down by D.G. Shipping.

Eyesight 6 x 6 in each eye without visual aids and no colour blindness.

Well, Diploma Engineer can join Merchant NAvy in there Rating department.

Basically in Engine Rating or similar department.

Qualification: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering alongwith 12 or 6 months pre-sea training.

Candidate also must be medically fit in all respect.

Age Limit: 21 years.

Duty: To work on the commands of Engineers in engine room, and act as an assistant to Engineers.

Pay Package: Anything between 8,000-16,000 at starting level. Which will keep increasing with experiance. And also various chances will be alloted for promotions after successful fulfilment of criterias.

For getting into Deck or Navigating department one has to start there career from post of "Deck Cadet" after that one will moves toward Third Officer which ultimately leads to Captain/Master in long time of 8-10 years work experiance.

Qualification Required: One has to persue 3 years B.sc (Nautical science) alongwith 12 months of onship training. Or these days this B.sc degre gets split into parts by maximum institutes such that- 1 year Diploma in Nautical science, 1 1/2 years Onboard ship training and 6 months pre-sea training.



Eligibility: 12th (PCM) with at least 60% aggregate. However, few Institutes also accept students with 55% aggregate. For Ex- Trident college of marine technology, West Bengal.

Age Limit: 20 years for those who has +2, while its 22-23 years for B.sc Dgree holder.

For Getting into Engine Department, one has to start career from the post of "Fifth or Junior Engineer" which ultimately lead to Chief Engineer.

Qualification Required: A degree in Marine or Mechanical or electrical Engineering from a recognised Institute. MArine engineering holder will get in directly while Mechanical and Elecrical has to undergone 10 months Pre-Sea Training in MArine engineering, which is either offered by recruiting company or candidate has to born itself.


Eligibility: Nothing different from what is required to be an Engineer.

Age Limit: 25 years

For Rating Department

For Deck Rating: Any bachelor degree(as it is prefered) with 1 year or 6 months pre-sea training.

Age Limit: 21 and 23 years.

Engine Rating: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering alongwith 12 or 6 months pre-sea training.

Age Limit: 21 years.

Catering Rating: Any background will do. However, background in hotel management with experience in the hospitality business will be a great help.
In this field you need to upgrade your skills every nine months or so, through proficiency development or skill development courses in the maritime academies and pass examinations conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). This will be your key to new contracts.

Age Limit: 25 years for MBA holders.

One can also enter in Deck Cadet, just by having 12 months pre-sea training but prospects are not so promissing. So better to enter after graduation.

BE in correspondence meane AMIE.It normally takes 5 years(some body says 4 years).registration time is 8 years after thet any body can renew the registration.

you have done diploma in mechanical engineering so you are eligible to join as deck cadet. you dont have to do anything extra just wait for the form to come and just fill up the form and sit in the exam.
