Different between Fraction and Rational Number Fraction Number :- A fraction is a number that express a part of the whole number as the quotient of integers where the denominator is not zero. another way to say that a fraction is a division expression where both devidend and divisor are integers and divisor is not zero. Example :- 3/5, 8/4, 9/6...etc. is the fraction number. Rational Number :- A rational number is a number that can be expressed as a quotient of integers or as a repeating or terminating decimal. Every fraction fit the first part of the definition. therefore every fraction is a rational number but not every rational number is a fraction. Example :- 4=8/2 or 1=3/3 is a rational number but 4 is not a fraction number. Regards ~Mukul~ |

Re: Difference between Fraction and Rational number?
Difference Between Fraction & Rational Numbers :
Fraction is a number that express a part of the whole number as the quotient of integers where deminator is not zero . Fraction is a division expression where both dividend & divisor are integers & divisor is not zero . A Proper Fraction is a common fraction in which the numerator is greater than the denominator Ex : 3/4 Improper Fraction is a common fraction in which the numerator is greater than the denominator Ex : 4/3 Mixed Fraction is a common fraction that is combined with an integer Ex : 2 5/6 Complex Fraction is a fraction in which the numerator or denominator contains a fraction Rational Number is a number that can be expressed as a quotient / integers / repeating / terminating decimal Every integer is a rational number , because it can be expressed as a quotient of integers , as in the case of 4 = 8/2 or 1 = 3/3 or -3 = 3/-1 |

Re: Difference between Fraction and Rational number?
Dear Friend
Do not worry ,I am explaining you the exact difference between the two rational number and fraction. First of about the fraction: Fraction is derieved from the latin word 'Fractus ' which means broken and represents a part of whole or we can say that equally divided parts. A number of the form a/b where a and b are integers and b is not equal to represents a fraction and the whole set is called rational numbers . So we can say that all the rational numbers are fraction but all fraction is not rational number due to the fact that fraction may used to represent irrational numbers ,algebraic fractions such as 2 root 2 . Now about rational numbers : Rational number is a number that can be represented in form of P/Q where p and q are integers and q not equal to zero . The decimal expansion of rational number either terminates or repeats the same finite sequence of numbers . Hope the information provided by me will surely clear your confusion regarding rational number and fraction. all the best aashisranjan784 |

Re: Difference between Fraction and Rational number?
fraction is a part of a whole no. While as rational no. May or may not be a part of a whole no. For example 2/2 is a rational no.but not a fraction thanks [email protected]

Re: Difference between Fraction and Rational number?
fractions are ratios of two numbers.typically ratios of two integers and the denominator should not be zero.all fraction numbers are rational numbers.

Re: Difference between Fraction and Rational number?
Respectable sir can not I say about the rational number that the rational must have a Common factor1 but a such condition is not require for fractions and thus all the
Qs are fractions and all the fractions are not So. |

Re: Difference between Fraction and Rational number?
Absolutely Correct. Fraction are used to represent positive value where as Rationals are ratio of two integers. Fractions are ratio of natural numbers.

Re: Difference between Fraction and Rational number?
I read in class vii math that fractional is a part of whole and is in the form of a/b where a and b are natural numbers not integers.so it indicates that every fraction is a rational no. And every rational no. Is not a fraction
