Re: Difference between NET examination and GATE?
There is a huge difference between the NET and the GATE exam. While one is entrance exam for post graduate course in Engineering, other is for the aspirants who want job in the central government colleges as lecturer or looking to do their PhD degree after the post graduate course. Here is the difference mentioned in details"
GATE Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, in short GATE is the exam which is conducted by the IISc and IITs for the admission for M.Tech courses offered in India. This exam is conducted in February on the behalf of HRD ministry of India. Anyone who is interested in post graduate course in Engineering is required to appear in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering exam. The performance of the candidate in this exam will determine whether he/she would get admission for M.Tech course or not. While the main purpose of the GATE is for admission in M.Tech. In past few years Public Sector Undertakings in India (PSU) are increasingly looking at the GATE score for recruitment. The procedure for B.Tech graduates to get job in PSU include written exam followed by the interview. However if you have performed extremely well in the GATE exam, PSU may directly call you up for the interview thus exempting you from appearing in the test. This is why B.Tech graduates do appear in GATE exam even if they have no intention to do M.Tech course. NET The second exam you talked about is National Eligibility Test which is conducted by University Grants Commission. All the candidates who are interested in lecturer job in the government college are required to first qualify the National Eligibility Test. Apart from lecturer job those who are interested in admission for PhD research are also required to appear in the National Eligibility Test. Eligibility ~~Only Indian Citizens are allowed to appear in NET. ~~Basic qualification requirement is post graduate course in any stream. ~~You can only apply for NET is same subject in which you completed post graduate course. ~~Must secure at least 55 percent marks is master's degree ~~SC/ST/OBC must secure 50 percent marks in master's degree ~~Students in final year of post graduation course may also apply, but will require to submit the degree within 2 years. ~~Age limit for those who are applying for JRF is 28 years. ~~No upper age limit for those applying for lecturer job. |

GATE is Graduate Aptitude test in Engineering for Technical Graduates like Engineering graduates for admission in post graduation of their respective field with stipend. Those who qualify GATE will get stipend if they do their post graduation from a AICTE approved college. If you qualify NET then you will be eligible for Lecturer post in Central government universities. NET score card will also help you in getting JRF in your respective field if you are below 27 years. Re: Difference between NET examination and GATE?
Hello,
One broader difference is that NET is short form for National Eligibility Test and GATE is short form for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. NET is for people who want to go for lectureship in government colleges or JRF or Junior Research Fellowship in any university. This NET rank will push you directly for the interview and no other written test will be required for you to give. If you clear that round of interview then only you can go for the respective curriculum. Now GATE is for getting entrance in M.Tech course directly. If you rank in GATE then you are directly admitted in M.Tech course, without taking any other test or interview. Now, this GATE rank is also valid for Ph.D. application and the rule is same as that of NET. |

Re: Difference between NET examination and GATE?
HELLO ,
NET : NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST is for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for Lectureship or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Eligibility for Lectureship both in Indian universities and colleges. This exam is conducted by UGC which includes 78 subjects . Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee) The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programmes (eg. M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) The score may also be used by Public sector units for employment screening purposes. best wishes..... |

Re: Difference between NET examination and GATE?
UGC is conducting UGC NET exam while AICTE is conducting GATE exam
they (UGC and AICTE) are two apex organisations that cater for the higher studies in India. One of the main differences between University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), is that the later one basically deals with technical education. When talking of UGC, it is the apex body that approves universities in the country. UGC provide funds for affiliated universities and colleges. The UGC also conducts exams, known as NET, for appointing teachers in colleges. The headquarters of UGC is in New Delhi, and there are six regional offices at Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bhopal and Bangalore. The AICTE is only a statutory body, which deals with co-ordinated development and proper planning of the technical education system in the country. All the Engineering, MBA and Pharmacy colleges are affiliated with the All India Council for Technical Education. The AICTE, which was established in November 1945, has its headquarters in New Delhi. The UGC was established in 1956 as a statutory body of the Union Government. However, UGC was formally inaugurated by the Education, Natural Resources and Scientific Research Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, in 1953. While technical institutions are overlooked by the AICTE, the other universities and colleges fall under the UGC. When talking about the function of the University Grants Commission, the UGC ACT says that the first function is to look into the financial needs of universities. It then allocates and disburses grants to these universities. Well, the other academic functions come only after these functions. On the other hand, the AICTE ACT gives priority to undertaking surveys in various fields of technical education at all levels. The funds’ allocation and disbursement comes second to this. Another difference that can be seen is that the UGC is free to do whatever it likes, but AICTE is not free from the intervention of the Human Rights Development Ministry. Summary 1. One of the main differences between AICTE and UGC, is that the former is exclusively formed for technical education. 2. While technical institutions are overlooked by the AICTE, the other universities and colleges fall under the UGC. 3. UGC approves universities in the country. It provides funds for affiliated universities and colleges. The AICTE is only a statutory body, which deals with co-ordinated development and proper planning of the technical education system in the country. 4. The AICTE was established in 1945, and the UGC in 1956. |
