This exam is conducted for all the three wings i.e. Army, Airforce and Navy. For the Army a degree from a recognised institute is sufficient. But for the Airforce and Navy candidates from engineering background are required. For the Airforce if a candidate has pursued Maths and Physics in 12th standard but not a graduate from engineering background then the candidate can still apply. It is a must that the course pursued must be from a recognised institute.

In final year of Graduation, you need to pass the Combined

Defence Services Exams being conducted by UPSC, clear the SSB interview,

be medically fit and join IMA as a Direct Entry provided you come in merit. For

details of exam dates/ notification visit UPSC website upsc.nic.in


The other entries are are Non UPSC entries(There is no written exam. You are

directly called for SSB interview):-



10+2 Tech Entry you can apply after your 12th Exams. Minimum aggregate of

70% is mandatory in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Look out for the

every year. Total training is five years. (one year at IMA Dehradun and four

years at Cadet Training Wings).

1.FOR CDSE = you have to be 19 half to 23 half years of age and must have passed graduation.
2.Buy a UPSC examination form in the month when CDSE exams are gonna published in leading employment newspaper.

There are very basic eligibility requirements as to be eligible in the CDS exam. One of the foremost criterions is that the candidate needs to be a citizen of India. As a B.Com graduate you are not eligible to appear for Naval Academy and Air Force Academy. These require students to have B.Sc. from a recognized University or equivalent. Anyhow, you are eligible to apply for the For IMA or OTA. For this candidates needs to have any degree. As for the IMA, candidates need to be in between 19 – 24 years of age. Male Bachelor candidates are only eligible to apply. For the OTA male candidates who are in between 19 to 25 can apply. Candidates can be either married or single.

the eligibility condition for CDS exams is one should posses degree from a recognized University.

the candidates appearing in the degree or equivalent examinations are also eligible to compensate for the CDS but would be required to submit the proof of passing the requisite qualifying examination by the date specified in the Commission's Notification for the examination.

To be eligible for the CDS exam, candidates should be a citizen of India primarily. Subjects of Bhutan and Nepal and Tibetan refugees who have migrated to India and settled in India prior to 1962 are also eligible. Other than citizens of India all other candidate should have a certificate of Eligibility issued by the Government of India to be eligible to appear for the exam. Each of these four academies’ has other eligibility criteria in terms of Age, Education etc. The details are given below

Naval Academy: Unmarried men in the age group of 19 to 22 years are eligible to appear for the exam. The candidates should also posses a degree of recognized university and with Mathematics and Physics as their subjects in 10+2 level or candidates with Bachelor of Engineering degrees are eligible.

Air Force Academy: Unmarried men in the age group of 19 to 23 years are eligible. The candidates must have a degree in B.Sc Maths & Physics of Bachelor of Engineering are eligible.

Officer's Training academy: Married or Unmarried men and women in the age group of 19 to 25 years are eligible. The candidates must also have a degree of a recognized university or equivalent

Eligibility criteria for CDS(Common Defence Service) exam and the exam is conducted by UPSC(union public service commission)

* Candidates should be the citizen of India.
* Candidates should be a graduate from a recognized university
* Age limit must be within 19-22 years for Navy
* Age limit must be within 19-24 years for Army
* Age limit must be within 19-23 years for Air Force.
* Only unmarried male candidates are allowed for the exam
* Final year candidates can also appear for exam

CDSE stands for COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES EXAMINATION, This CDS examination is conducted by the UNION PUBLIC SERVICES COMMISSION. Through CDS EXAMINATION,one can apply for the Indian Military Academy (IMA)/OFFICERS TRAINING ACADEMY (OTA) , INDIAN AIR FORCE (IAF) & NAVAL ACADEMY (NA).
The educational requirement for the CDS examination is a graduation degree.
. For apply in the INDIAN NAVAL & AIR FORCE, you must have to be a science student with the two compulsory subjects of MATHS & PHYSICS .
Also you must have to score at least 60% in 10+2+3 .
And for being eligible for the OTS/IMA, you just have to posses a graduation degree from a recognized college.
There are 520 seats to be recruit through the CDS -

The CDS exam is conducted twice in an year. For educational criteria, the eligibility for the army wing is- you should be in your final year or pre final year of graduation in any stream
But for air force, you should be having physics and mathematics as your subjects in class 12th. Engineering students are preferred generally.
This year's CDS paper will be held on 17th February 2013.
