Eligibility criteria and age limit for IAS exam?


Hi all,

I am Sagar, I want what is the eligibiltycriteria,age limit and procedure for IAS exams.Please suggest me how to prepare for IAS .

Union Public Service Commission : Civil Service Exam

Generally called as IAS exam or IPS exam accordingly by the aspirants and general public.

This exam is conducted by UPSC every year to select the best brains and to place them in top positions in the government administration.

Eligibility Criterion

To write this intelligent exam you should attain all the below criterion.
  • Must be an Indian(For IAS)
  • Must have 21 years of age.
  • Should have a degree certificate from a recognized university.

This concludes the eligibility criterion part.

Age limits:

For General :

21 years is the lower limit and 30 years is the upper limit.

For OBC :

21 years is the lower limit and 33 years is the upper limit.

For SC/ST :

21 years is the lower limit and 35 years is the upper limit.

For Physically challenged:

21 is the lower limit and 40 yrs is the upper limit.

Step by Step procedure :
  1. Fulfill the eligibility and age criterion.
  2. wait for the Notification(Generally released in february of every year).
  3. apply for CSAT(Level 1 exam) replaced by preliminary exam.
  4. prepare and clear CSAT to get eligibility for next level(Mains).
  5. Apply for Mains(Level-2).
  6. Prepare and Clear it to get the eligibility for Interview.(Level-3).
  7. You should clear personal Interview.(Level-3).
  8. you will get the result.
  9. Accordingly you will get the service(IAS,IPS, IFS etc., ).
  10. after cadre allotment your training will be started.
  11. after training you will be posted as junior officer in your cadre.

This is the complete procedure.

Preparation :

Coming to preparation it should be varied accordingly to the level(1,2 or 3).
Every level has different syllabus. So according to that preparation should be progressed.
Preparation can be done on your own or you can also take the help of any coaching center.

Indian Administration Service exam is held once in year is conducted by UPSC.

Minimum Eligibility for IAS exam

Minimum Qualification
1.Graduated from recognized university in any discipline.
2.final year student can also apply.

Age should be between
21 to 30 years for General category candidates
21to 33 year for OBC category candidates
21 to 35 years for SC/ST category candidates

Number of attempts:
4 attempts for General category candidates.
7 attempts for Obc category candidates
14 attempts for SC/ST category candidates.

There are 3 stages in IAS that should be cleared by the candidate.

first one is preliminary exam (it is objective type exam)
second is main exam (Question to be answer in length)
third is personal interview

Clearing one will get you to another level exam.

Important dates ::

Date of Notification::04.02.2012
Last date for receipt for application:: 05.03.2012
Date of Preliminary Examination ::20.05.2012
Date of main examination ::05.10.2012

IAS exam is conducted by UPSC in once time in year through Civil Service Exam.So you must attend in CSAT exam.

Those candidate are graduate from any recognized university with any discipline are eligible for IAS exam.There is no marks criteria.

But your age should be in between 22 to 30 years old.Age relaxation is provide for SC/ST/OBC category as per govt rule.

The maximum attempts for SC/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.

Also you must be in citizen in India.

Last Date for Receipt of Applications: 05-03-2012
Date of Exam: 20-05-2012

IAS---Indian Administration Service exam & UPSC conduct it once in a year.

Candidate should be graduate from recognized university (any branch)
Graduated from recognized university in any discipline.
Age criteria : (21- 30) years for General category candidates.
So ,please prepare for the exam..good luck.
4 attempts for General category candidates.

  • Indian administrative service is one of the civil services to which aspirants are admitted by the Union Public Service Commission. The selection includes different stages which one much pass through in order to make himself eligible for the post.
  • The eligibility required for applying for the exam includes a bachelor degree in any discipline . Final year aspirant can also apply for it.
  • The minimum age required for applying is 21 years of age. The aspirant can apply for the exam till they are 30 years of age. Above which a general category aspirant is not eligible. Relaxation is provided to the other community people with 3 years relaxation for sc and st. And 5 years for bc and mbc aspirants.
  • The aspirants can make only a limited number of attempts. General category aspirant can apply for a maximum of 4 times, bc and mbc aspirant can apply for 7 times but there is no restriction for sc and st aspirants.
  • The selection procedure for the service includes written common aptitude exam followed by written main exam which includes optional papers and finally personnel interview

yes for sure you are eligible for attempting IAS ( indian administrative exam)
as you have fulfilled with the requirement of the completion of graduation.

EXAM is carried out in different stages having different type of syllabus and different strategies to crack it.

1) preliminary exam
2) main exam
3) interview

after getting descent rank in the preliminary exam you will be called for the main exam which is followed by the interview.
to get selected for an interview doesn't assure seat as you have to score again in interview too.

A general category candidate has an age limit of 32 years, but that doesn't mean that he can write this exam as many times as he wishes. ... The number of attempts for IAS exam: General Category: 6 attempts till 32 years of age. The number of attempts for IAS exam: OBC: 9 attempts till 35 years of age.
