You should be atleast graduate & of age 21 years to give the exam of IAS

In Prelims you have to give paper of CSAT & GS
In mains You have to give these papers
Paper I One of the Indian languages
Paper II English
Paper III Essay
Papers IV and V General Studies
Papers VI, VII, VIII and IX Any two subjects from optional subjects & Each subject will have two papers

You have to give atleast 1 full year for its preparation if you are serious about it

IAS exam is the exam conducted by the UPSC, india which is the most prestigious exam in the country.

the examination is:
Civil Services(prel) Exam,2011

date of notification:19.02.2011
last date of receipt:21.03.2011
date of exam:12.06.2011

For this exam refer a lot of general knowledge by refering:
Manorama books,Frontline,India today etc.

hi...
the IAS exam is conducted to select the administrative officers by the indian government and it is conducted by upsc on behalf of the government,
there are three steps in the exam
1.PRELIMS
it consists of two papers from this year,one is the general studies paper other the CSAT which is an aptitude test,this is an objective exam with negative marking
2.MAINS
if you qualify the prelims then you have to write the mains,its an descriptive type exam,here you have to select two papers of your own choice,along with the general studies paper,
3.INTERVIEW
you have to give an interview only if you clear the mains exam

this year the exam will be held in the month of June and the notification will be out in the month of February,
also you should be above 21 years of age and an graduate or in final year of your graduation to write this exam,

Eligibility:Graduation from a recognised university is the minimum qualification for civil service exam.
Age should be between 21-30.A person can write civil service four times.To reserved categories it is more than four.
Pattern:The selection is based on three stages-preliminary,main and interview.In each stage filtering process taking place.Exam notification will publish on second Saturday of December.

The Eligibility Criteria for IAS exam is
1. A Graduate in any discipline from any recognised university/college in India.
2. Age Limit is 21 to 30 Year.
3. Maximum number of attempts allowed is 4.

According to the new pattern of IAS Exam which is called UPSC CSAT and the scheme of examination has been changed from the previous years.
The new Pattern exam for CSAT is that it will consist of two papers in Prelims out which one paper will be of Gs and another one will be of english comprehension, general and logical reasoning.
Mains exam will consist of two optional papers, english and hindi papers and a general studies paper. Mains Exam will be of Subjective type whereas Prelims will be of Multiple Choice types.
The important dates for IAS 2011 Exam is
Date of Notification 19-2-2011
Last Date for receipt of application form is 21-3-2011.
Date of Examination is 12-6-2011.

The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) exam is conducted by the UPSC every year.It has three stages Preliminary Exam, a Main exam, and an interview.
The eligibility for this exam is mentioned below :

Educational Qualifications
1.Degree from a recognised university with at least one of the subjects
Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology,Maths,Physics,Statistics and Zoology.
OR
2.Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry .

Age limits
21-30 years


No. of attempts
Four
Seven attempts of OBC
no limit for SC/ST

Exam:
IAS exam is conducted in three stages Preliminary Exam, a Main exam, and an interview.

1.Preliminary Exam:
It consist of objective type (multiple-choice questions) of 400 marks.
2 Paper in English & Hindi.

Paper 1: 200 marks - Duration : 2 hrs.
Paper 2: 200 marks – Duration : 2 hrs.

2.Main exam
Paper-I One of the Indian Languages to be selected by the candidate
300 marks
Paper-II English 300 Marks
Paper-III Essay 200 Marks
Papers IV & V General Studies 600 Marks
Papers VI, VII, VIII & IX :Any two subjects selected from the optionalsubjects
1200 Marks
Total Marks 2000 Marks

Pattern

In Civil services Exam there are two stages.One is prelms and Another One is Mains.

Those who clear the Prelims Exam, then He/She will be able to write Mains.

For Prelims Syllabus/Pattern,It consists of

General Studies and

Optional Subject(to be selected form 25 subjects Agriculture

Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science,Botany,Chemistry,Civil Engineering,Commerce,Economics,Economics (for Visually Impaired candidates),

Electrical Engineering,Geography,Geology,Geology (for Visually Impaired candidates),Indian History,Law,Mathematics,Mechanical Engineering,

Medical Science,Philosophy,Philosphy (for Visually Impaired candidates),Physics,Political Science,Public Administration,Psychology,Statistics,Sociology,Zoo logy)

The same pattern is also for MAINS but its a next level in contrast to type(tougher than Prelims) of the paper

Eligibility Criteria

A degree from a recognized University or equivalent.

Age must be inbetween 21 - 30 years as on 01.08.2011

Candidates appearing at the degree examination i.e final year candidates are also eligible to compete

2) Mains :- If you clear the Prelims,then you shall qualify for the Mains where you will face nine papers..where your knowledge of your graduation subjects shall be tested..

If you clear both the rounds..you shall be called for the interview and the final selection..

Important Dates :-

The forms shall be available to you in the month of February..

The Prelims are held in last week of May and the results for the Prelims shall be declared in the first half of August..

The Mains shall be conducted in the last week of October and the results shall be announced in the mid of March..

The interview shall be held in the last week of April and the result shall be announced within 2 weeks of the interview..

Hai,
Civil services examination is conducted by the UPSC.
Such as IAS, IPS, IES etc....

Eligibility criteria:

The candidate should be complete graduation from a recognised university.

The candidate must be a citizen of india.

Final year graduate student also eligible.

Age limits is 21years to 30years, 3years upper age relaxation for the obc candidates and 5years upper age relaxation for the sc/st candidates.

No.of attempts:
4 times for the general candidates,
7times for the OBC candidates,
There is no limit for the SC/ST candidates.

Selection procedure:
Preliminary exam,
Main exam,
Interview.

Important dates for upcoming exam:
Date of notification:
04-02-2012 Last Date for Receipt of
Applications: 05-03-2012 Date of Exam: 20-05-2012.
