How to become an IPS officer after doing civil engineering? Books to be referred?


sir,
i am doing my engineering in mechanical. and thinking of doing carrer in civil services clearly speaking i want to become an ips officer or any other officer with highly reputed post. i want to know,
1) how to prepare.
2) what are the papers.
3) how to apply.
4) what are the books which can be usefull to prepair

IPS - Indian Police Service
There are three rounds,
*Preliminary examination
*Main examination
*Interview

Preliminary examination:
Paper-1:General Studies
-> current events,
-> History of India.
Paper-2:Optional Subject
Each candidate has to choose one subject from a list(provided below).
List of subjects:
Psychology---------------------Agriculture---------------------Botany
Commerce----------------------Economics--------------------- Geography
Indian History------------------ Law----------------------------Civil Engineering
Mathematics--------------------Mechanical Engineering--------- Medical Science
Philosophy--------------------- Physics-------------------------Electrical Engineering
Political Science----------------Geology------------------------ Public Administration
Sociology----------------------Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Chemistry--------------------- Statistics

Main examination:
In Main examination there are 9 papers.
Paper-1:Indian Language Exam
Paper-2:General English(English skills)
Paper-3:Essay(on any given topic)
Paper-4:General Studies I(history,culture,polity,current issues)
Paper-5:General Studies II(general knowledge and awareness)
Paper-6,7,8,9:Optional Subjects

Interview:
The candidates who cleared the above exams are called for the interview.In that interview they may ask the following questions,
1.Meaning of your name/About a person who has same name as yours?
2.About your career choice?
3.Recent current topics.
4.About your academic record and some more.

Some requirements are need to be fulfilled in order to complete the training successfully.They are
1.A weekly run of 10 kilometres in 60 minutes.
2.Horse riding, rock climbing, assault courses.
3.Route march of 25 k.m.
4.PT obstacles.
5.Rope climbing etc.

There is no matter you are from which stream you just have to complete your degree in any stream you are eligible for give upsc cse examination. For this you have to read ncert books of every subject and after that you have to read advanced books which are mentioned or referred by toppers.
