AGE LIMIT & RELAXATION for UGC NET exam:

A relaxation in age up to 5 years is provided to the candidates who belong SC/ST/PWD/OBC (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC ) categories and to women applicants. UGC NET - University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test conducted by UGC for selection of Lectureship and award to Junior Research Fellowship(JRF).
There is no upper age limit for those candidate applying for lectureship, but the candidate applying for JRF should be within the age of 28 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate. Besides the eligible candidate must be an Indian National having completed Post Graduation Degree with 55% marks in any stream from a recognised University, can apply for NET. Re: How can I apply for UGC NET if I am 30 years old? I am a general category student
There will be no problem in applying for the National Eligibility Test if the purpose is college lectureship. Because there is no upper age limit in this regard. However the problem will come if you are applying for Junior Research Fellowship.
General candidates can not apply for the Junior Research Fellowship if exceeded the age limit of 28 years. Since you are 30 years old, it would not be possible to apply for NET exam for JRF. The University Grants Commission offer no exception in such cases. Therefore you should only apply if aim is college lectureship. In that case you will have no issue and would be able to appear for the entrance exam. Hopefully that answers your question. Now I am writing down eligiblity criteria if you are interested in appearing for NET. Make sure you are meeting all the criteria before applying. Eligibility 1. Any candidate holding valid PG degree is welcomed to apply. 2. But the minimum marks should be 55 percent in the degree. 3. There is 5 percent relaxation for SC/ST. 4. UGC allows final year students to also apply. 5. But such students must submit the degree within 2 years else face disqualification. 6. The NET subject should be related to your PG degree. 7. The age limit will be 28 for JRF but there is relaxation. 8. The relaxation is 3 years for OBC while 5 years for SC/ST. 9. There is no upper age limit for lectureship. |

Re: How can I apply for UGC NET if I am 30 years old? I am a general category student
Dear Friend,
You can definitely apply for the UGC NET Exam even if you belong to General Category and have attained an age of 30 years. First of all , let me clear you that the NET Exam is conducted for two different posts : 1) College Lectureship 2) Junior Research Fellowship As we all know that the age bar criteria applies only for the post of Junior Research Fellowship , So candidates who want to apply for the post of Lectureship can apply for this post without worrying about any age bar. The NET Stands for National Eligibility Test. This Test is conducted by the University Grants Commission [UGC]. This Test is a national level test conducted twice every year in the months of June and December. Since , you have attained an age of 30 years , so you can apply for the NET Exam only for the post of Lectureship. This is because in order to apply for the JRF too , your age should lie in between 21-28 years. Besides Age Bar , the other qualifications Required for NET Exam are : ** The candidate must have completed Post Graduation in any stream from any recognized University. ** The Candidate must have secured a minimum of 55% marks in Post Graduation. ** The candidate should not have any pending backlog. ** The candidate can also apply even if he/she is in final year of PG. ** Both Male and Female candidates are eligible for this exam. ** The candidate must be an Indian. ** There is no bar on the number of attempts for the NET Exam. This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want. |
