Hello Friend,

In India, army is the most important part of defence.

To join Indian Army you have to fight Civil Defence Services exams i.e. CDS and NDA exams.

Both CDS and NDA exams are conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission).

Educational Eligibility For Indian Army - A candidate pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry & Maths with minimum 50 % aggregate marks from a regonised board.

Age Eligibility For Indian Army - 16 Years to 21 Years.

Physical Eligibility For Indian Army - A candidate should be physically and mentally fit.

1. Eye Sight = 6/6,
2. Height = 167 cms,
3. Weight: 50 Kg
4. Chest: 77 cm (Normal) / 82 cm (Expanding)

Procedure to Join Indian Army - ( 5 Stages )
1. Written test,
2. Physical tests,
3. Medical tests,
4. Group tests and
5. Personal Interview.

) Nationality :

A candidate must either be :

i) a citizen of India, or
ii) a subject of Bhutan, or
iii) a subject of Nepal, or
iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

(b) Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status :

A candidate must be an unmarried male and have attained the age of 16 1/2 years and must not have attained the age 19 years on the 1st January or 1st of July of the year succeeding the year of examination.
Candidates must not marry until they complete their full training. A candidate who marries subsequent to the date of his application, though successful will not be selected for training.
A candidate who marries during training shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the Government.

(c) Educational Qualifications :

1. For Army wing of National Defence Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
2. For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at the Naval Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equilvalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply.

(d) Physical Standards : Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination as per guidelines given

How to Apply

Apply in response to advertisement in March/April & Oct./Nov.

Age at the time of joining must be 161/2-19 years

Commencement of Course each year start from January and July...

Mode of selection

• NDA exam by UPSC
• and SSB interview

if you are a engineer then

As an Indian Army Engineer, you could be a part of any of the three elite corps of Engineers,

• Bombay Spares
• Madras Engineers
• Bengal Engineers.

Two Options available

a) Permanent Commission
b) Short Service Commission

in short service Commission you can serve for 5 years and have an option to quit the army.
you can apply following ways
1.)Technical Entry Graduates IMA exam mostly held in January and July and age should be 20 to 27 Years and mode of selection is Direct SSB..
2.)SS Commission not fixed and after completion of b.tech chech with related dates in employement news.
3.)OTA –Technical Entry held in May and Oct/ Nov and age should be between 19 to 25 and mode is Direct SSB

you can join in Indian Army in various ways.

If you are science background and your age 16.5 -19. then you can appear in NDA exam. through which you can.

1. If you are engineering student then through UES exam which exam you can appear in the final year of your btech.

2.through UPSC exam. which exam you can appear after doing your btech.

but if you are general graduation candidate having age 21- 29 can appear UPSC exam. which exam you can appear after doing your graduation.

Well there are basically two ways
1. NDA... 16.5 to 19 yrs of age and +2 appearing or passed
the exam is conducted by upsc twice a year... there are many physical criteria
following cadres are selected through NDA
Indian Army
IAF
Navy
OTA
2. CDSE... only for engineers you need to have engineering degree form a recognized university or college,, age limit is 21 years to 25 yrs for army
upto 23 yrs for IAF navy etc.

following are the steps required to apply indian army

1.the person must be indian
2.the person should completed 12
3the person should have maths in 12
4.minimum percentage required is 60%
5.the person must have good healthy


so as per my knowledge above 5 poins are necessry for indian army

In order to join the Indian Army , you need to have the following eligibilities:-

--> 10+2 pass candidates with physics , chemistry , maths with a minimum of 55-60% marks.

--> Only unmarried male candidates can apply for it.

--> Age limitation is between 16.5-19 years with no relaxation.

--> Minimum height should be 157.5 cm with 5 cm chest expansion.

--> No color blindness with 6/6 eyesight.

--> You can give the NDA exam for the same.
