Many of the candidates have a desire to see themselves as an IAS officer. But it is not so easy to be selected as IAS.

One should have strond dedication towards the completion of syllabus and in understanding the subject knowledge to perform well in the respective Entrance Exams for IAS.

For IAS, one has to crack civil services examination being conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission).

The complete selection procedure for this will be by
-CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test)
-Civil Services Main Examination
-Interview

The minimum academic qualification that you need to possess to take up this exam is by completion of Graduation with any of the stream from a recognized university.

Candidates who are pursuing final year of Graduation course can also appear for this Exam.

So, I suggest you to hvae strong preparation of the following areas
-General English
-Aptitude
-General Awareness which are a part of CSAT Exam.

If you have qualified in the CSAT Exam, you will have to appear for Civil Services Main Examination.

This exam will consists of questions from the 2 optional subjects which you have chosen while applying for this Exam.

I recommend you to opt for the optional subjects which you are interested and where your academics subject knowledge is being better utilized.

Wish you all the best.

Hi friend ,
i appreciate you
.its very good that you have started thinking about the indian administrative services right from
now ,actually you will have lots of time to prepare for it from now on in engineering ,what you
have to do is that freeze your subjects which you want to take in the main examination ,start
from the basics of the both the examinations and start preparing for it from now on itself ,and
also what you have to so is that prepare well for the general knowledge because this is the
subject which actually decides the rank and the difference between selection and non selection
,also if possible take some kind of coaching because the coaching institutes will give you proper
guidance and also the proper back drop of the examination

Since you are in your first year, you have plenty of time to prepare for IAS exam.

Here is the list of books to study for UPSC. These are basic books to be studied.

*R.S.Agarwal for aptitude

*Competition Wizard,Competition Success ReviewPratiyogitha Darpan and Frontline magazines.

*Manorama Year Book

*India Year book(Released by External Affairs Ministry)
*
Economic Survey of India

So, I suggest you to hvae strong preparation of the following
-General English
-Aptitude
-General Awareness which are a part of CSAT Exam.

You need to take optional subjects for mains examination.Once you take optional aubjects you need to get books list for them also.
The famous optional subjects are

*Psychology
*Anthropology
*Geography
