sir/mam, i am a student of b-tech 3rd year...how can i apply for cds (ota) and when am i appplicable for this? i also want to inquire about the dates of this exam..plz reply. i have a great interest in joining defence services.

QUALIFICATION FOR ENTRANCE TESTS IN OTA THATS CDS IS GRADUATION IN ANY DISCIPLINE,THERE IS AN ENTRY SCHEME FOR ENGINEERS AS WELL,FOR FEB 2012 EXAM THE FORMS

i am a 21 yr old, 3rd year student. i have done my ssc and hsc from a convent back ground, but how ever i'm pursuing my graduation through an hindi medium college due to financial problems.so do i qualify to get permission to go ahead and do my OTA exams.i really want to join the defence.

Hey friend,

OTA - Officer Training Academy

For joining in this force you need to write the CDS Exam which is known as one of the defence service exam which is being conducted by UPSC(Union Public Service Commission).

This exam is conducted for candidates to join in defence forces of India:

>> Indian Military Academy
>> Indian Navy
>> Indian Air Force
>> Officer Training Academy

This exam is conducted every year such as CDS I and CDS II.

For joining in this force you need to satisfy certain framed eligibility conditions for the exam:

>> The candidate need to be a citizen of India

>> Only unmarried male candidate are only eligible for the CDS Exam

>> The age limit for the CDS Exam for joining in OTA is that the candidate must have 19-25 years

>> Education qualification for the exam is that the candidate must have completed a degree from a recognized university.

>> Candidate need to be physically fit while appearing for the CDS exam.

If you are satisfying these criteria for the exam,then you can apply for the CDS Exam for joining in OTA


You can apply for the CDS Exam either

• Offline

Dear friend CDS (combined defense examination) conducted by UPSC every year, through which candidates are recruited in defense as officer

Eligibility for CDS
there are various types of entry technical entry, non technical, NNC etc
1.) non technical entry

Age 19yrs to 25 yrs
you should be graduate

Age 21yrs to 27yrs, you should be a law graduate

2.) technical entry
Age 20yrs to 27 yrs, you should be engineering graduate


After you clear out the CDS exam you will be called for SSB/SSC camp which of duration of 8 to 12 days
Here in camp you have to clear some more examinations like
1.) screening test which includes aptitude test
2.)Group test, here a group of candidates are given some task to complete
3.)story writing
4.)Intelligence test
5.)Group discussions
6.)Interview ETC
When clear these you will under go medical test, after clearing medical test you will selected on all India merit

Bright's SSB interview
CSR SSB interview

After this you be selected for training at
1.) IMA (Indian Military Academy). Here you will be permanently commissioned into army
2.) OTA (Officers Training Academy). Here you will be commissioned for short term i.e. 9 years
