IAS stands for Indian Administrative Officer and the examination is conducted by the UPSC for every .

The Selection procedure for IAS Examination may divided into

Preliminary Examination and Main Examination .

Eligibility Criteria :-

If your interested to apply for this Examination then you should complete Graduation in any discipline from recognized university . Any stream candidate may eligible to apply for this Examination like, Commerce / Science / Arts etc... Final year candidate may also eligible to apply for this Examination .

Full form of IAS is Indian Administrative Service. This exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. There are two more civil service exams which are conducted by UPSC like IAS and they are:- Indian Forest Service and Indian Police Service.

It should be remembered that IAS exam is only for the Indian nationals. Although the other civil service exams can be given by candidates of other nationals like Nepal, Bhutan etc. but for IAS you have to be a citizen of India. This is an important criteria.

As far as the educational qualification is concerned you need to be a graduate to sit for this exam. This degree can be attained in any discipline of your choice. It needs to be a valid one.

The preliminary examination can also be given by candidates who are in the final year and planning to give the final qualifying exam or is waiting for the results to come out. Before the main exam though they should have passed the qualifying exam.

• Minimum Age Limit:- 21 years
• Maximum Age Limit (Gen):- 30 years
• Maximum Age Limit (SC/ST):- 35 years
• Maximum Age Limit (PWD):- 40 years

Literature of one of the following languages :

Arabic, Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, Dogri, Chinese, English, French, German, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Pali, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Sanskrit, Santali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.
Important Notes:

(i) Candidates will not be allowed to offer the following combinations of subjects: –

(a) Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration;
(b) Commerce & Accountancy and Management;
(c) Anthropology and Sociology;
(d) Mathematics and Statistics;
(e) Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science.
(f) Management and Public Administration;
(g) Of the Engineering subjects, viz., Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering–not more than one subject.
(h) Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science.

(ii) The question papers for the examination will be of conventional (essay) type.

Total number of questions in the question papers of optional subjects will be eight. All questions will carry equal marks. Each paper will be divided into two parts, viz. Part A and Part B, each part containing four questions. Out of eight questions, five questions are to be attempted. One question in each part will be compulsory. Candidates will be required to answer three more questions out of the remaining six questions, taking at least one question from each part. In this way, at least two questions will be attempted from each Part i.e. one compulsory question plus one more.

I am doing chemical engineering.Is the chemistry subject is equal to chemical engineering. Is the chemical engineering is eligible for main exam. This is my doubt.Please clarify my doubt.
