Eligiblity Criteria for UPSC Civil services Examination :

IAS Stands for Indian Administrative Service and this examination was Conducted by UPSC Every year. The examination was Held in 2 stages, Preliminary and Mains. Preliminary examination are also called CSAT, CSAT Stands for Civil services aptitude test and in this examination there are 2 Papers and both are Objective. Those who cracked the preliminary examination are eligible for Main examination.

Main examination was descriptive and for this examination you have to choose the Optional subjects as per the Graduation subjects.

If you are Interested in this examination, then for this you have to satisfied the given eligibility Criteria :

>> You have to passed in your graduation degree course in any discipline form a recognised university.

>> Your age should not be more than 30 years and not be less than 21 years.

>> Final year graduate candidates are also apply for This examination.

>> Upper age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC Candidates.

General candidates will gets 4 Attempts to cracked this examination, OBC Candidates will gets 7 Attempts and No limits for SC/ST Candidates.

The Notification of this examination was published in the month of February every year and for next year examination dates and schedule was already updated in the UPSC Website, So please apply for this examination next year, if you have completed your Graduate degree course.

The Notification of Next year preliminary examination is going to be declared on 04/Feb/2012 in the employment Newspaper or in the UPSC website.

Minimum education criteria = Graduate
Maximum age criteria = 28yrs (for General category and I think it is 32 years for SC/ ST categories)

You have to apply for UPSC (Union Public Services Commission) exam. Notification for the same is done by the Govt.Gazette and in the Employement New and Rozgar Yojana news papers (available on weekly basis in newstands).

Once you apply, you have to take the Prelims exam in a subject of your choice and General Knowledge. This is a subjective paper. Once you get through the Prelims, you have to write the Main Exam (again subjective), but you have to choose 2 main subjects (eg. Physics and Political Science etc).

After you clear the Main exam, you need to take the Group Discussion and then the interview.

Based on the overall ranking and your choice of cadre, you will be provided IFS (Indian Foreign Service), IAS or IPS. The higher your rank, the choice is with you.

In case you have not not got a good rank and got into IFS, IAS or IPS, you may still become a Group A or B officer in the Central Govt.
