Graduation is the qualification specified to pursue IAS. Candidates can choose any particular subject so as to attend this exam. 21 years is the lower age limit for this post. Higher age limit will differ and is fixed as 30 years. SC/ST/OBC candidates get age relaxation. For more specific details one cal log in to UPSC site.

IAS Stands for Indian Administrative Service Examination .

This examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission Once in a year .IAS officer recruitment process is conducted by Civil service exam .

Optional subjects for IAS main exam:

Economics , Electrical Engineering,Geography, Geology ,History, Law,Management,Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science and International Relations, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology,Statistics, Zoology, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Anthropology,Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce and Accountancy.

So you can choose as per your strength .

Preliminary examination has two sections and each section consist of 200 marks.Both sections are objective types questions.

Only those students who have cleared the preliminary exam will be eligible for the main exam.There are total 9 papers and students have to choose two optional subjects .After clearing the main exam you will get call for the interview.

Civil Service Exam date already announced in upsc website so for online application you may log onto www.upsc.gov.in and apply here on line before last submission date .Application fees for civil service exam is 100 /-.

So the last date of civil service application submission is 04/03/2013 and the preliminary exam date is 19/05/2013

IAS Exam Details:-

One of the most premier service career in India is IAS whose full form is Indian Administrative Services. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts an examination to choose the deserving candidates applying for this exam.

There are mainly three stages which needs to be crossed:-

1. Preliminary
2. Mains
3. Interview

Educational Qualification:-
  • You must be a citizen of India.
  • You should be a graduate in any discipline from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission.
  • Final year students can also apply for the prelim exam. Before filling up the mains exam form, the result needs to be produced.

Age Limit:-
  • The minimum age limit is 21 years. For general category candidates the upper age limit is 30 years.

  • Age of SC/ST candidates should be between 21 and 35 years of age.

Examination Pattern:-

Question pattern will be mainly objective type and you will get the freedom to answer all the questions in either English or Hindi. The total time limit for this exam is two hours. There will be two papers to solve. One is of general studies and second one is the optional paper. There will be a list of optional subjects to choose from.

Questions will be mainly essay type and paper will be bilingual as mentioned above.You will get three hours to complete the whole paper. In IAS Main Exam Paper I is Indian Language, Paper II is English, Paper III is Essay, Paper IV is General Studies and Paper V-XI is optional. For each paper you need to choose two subjects from the list of the optional subjects which will be given to you.



From 2012 onwards postal application for IAS exam has been abolished by UPSC which means now the whole procedure will be carried online. From the time the notification is released you will get about 20-25 days to register your name.

Age limit to appear in the UPSC Civil services exams(This also includes IAS posts)
Minimum 21 years for all the candidates
Maximum 30 years for the General Candidates

Final year students are also applicable...

Age Limit:

INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES

After graduation you can apply for I.A.S exam.
I.A.S exam is conducted by U.P.S.C once in a year.

Age should be in between 21-30 year.
For O.B.C candidate age is in between 21-33 year.
For ST/SC candidate age should be in between 21-37 year.

You can apply online or offline.
The Form cost is just 20 Rs.
