What is the eligibility criteria for UPSC exam? Is engineering beneficial to me


I am studying in SE Instrumentation & control Engg. I want to give UPSC exam, but I don't know the eligibility criteria.(1) What is eligibility criteria for this?
(2)Is Engineering beneficial to me in doing UPSC exam?

Dear Friend,

As per your question, I will answer them one by one....


1. I will attach the whole eligibility criteria in word format. Download that..

2. Educational Qualifications :
For I.M.A. and Officers Training Academy-
Degree of a recognised University or equivalent.
For Naval Academy :
B.Sc. (with Physics & Mathematics) or Bachelor of Engineering.
For Air Force Academy :
Degree of Recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.

As mentioned above both Degree and engineering have same value.
So you will not get any benifit for engineering.....

The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities....SO YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND EXAM AFTER COMPLETION OF YOUR GRADUATION...
you can try for job in INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICES....

Candidates who have appeared at an examination which would educationally qualify them for the UPSC examination but have not received the the results will also be eligible for admission to the Preliminary Examination. They will have to produce the proof of passing the requisite examination with their application for the Main Examination.

Candidates possessing professional and technical qualifications, recognised by Government as equivalent to professional and technical degree would also be eligible for admission to the examination.

AGE ELIGIBILITY
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, in the year of examination.

i will be finishing law by next year.. i just planned to write UPSC. which area will be suitable for me? i dont have any intention of doing IAS OR IPS. pls refer me a good course.

YES, Final year Graduation candidates can apply for the UPSC Exams

You can apply for the :
>> UPSC Civil Services Exams
>> UPSC Engineering Services Exams

Eligibilty to apply for the UPSC Civil Services Exams:

Education: Graduation pass in any stream from a recognized university
No minimum percentage of marks is required in Graduation

Age- Minimum 21 years
Maximum 30 years
OBC can apply till 33 years
SC/ST can apply till 35 years

Attempts/Chances: UPSC has also fixed number of attempts

As an Engineering Graduate you are eligible to apply for CDS/IES/Civil Service Examination conducted by UPSC every year.

CDS - Combined Defence Service conducted twice every year to join Indian Defence Services - The eligible candidate must be an unmarried Indian National having completed Graduation Degree in any stream of education from a recognised University within the age of 19 to 25 years with good physical and mental Fitness, can apply for CDS.

IES - Indian Engineering Service - The eligible candidate must ean Indian National having completed B.Tech. Degree form a recognised University in any stream within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate.

Civil Service Exam to become IAS/IPS/IFS/ICS etc. - The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having completed Graduation Degree in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate, can apply for Civil Service Exam.

UPSC stands for the Union Public service commission.It is the examination conducting council of India that conducts different entrance exams at national level so as to recruit candidates to the different government departments.

The eligibility criteria for different exams are different ,basically bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognized university is required with different age limits.

Yes,it will be beneficial ,being a control engineer ,you are eligible for the following UPSC exams mentioned below:

1.Civil services examinations:

2.Indian Forest services

3.Indian Engineering services.

>>The age limit for all the above mentioned exams is 21-30 years and relaxation of three years to obc and five years to the sc/st respectively.

>>There are four attempts for the general candidates ,seven for obc and no limit for sc/st respectively.

>>You must be an Indian citizen

For you ,Engineering services will be the most preferred one .

4.Combined defense services .

>>Age limit is 19-25 years.Unmarried male and female both candidates can apply for the exam.

5.Central Armed Police forces:

The Acronym "UPSC" stands for the Union Public Service Commission. The Union Public Service Commission conducts a number of examinations at national level for the recruitment of candidates in various departments.

So , the eligibility criteria for all the UPSC Examinations differ from each other but as you are an engineering student , the UPSC Examinations for which you can apply are :

** Civil Services Examination

** Indian Engineering Services Examination

** Combined Defense Services Examination

The Eligibility Criteria Required for Civil Services Examination are :

** The candidate must have completed graduation in any stream from any recognized college/university.

** Candidates in final year of graduation can also apply.

** There is no percentage bar for this exam.

** The Age Limit for this exam is 21-30 years for candidates belonging to Open Category.
