Hello,
NET(National Eligibilty Test)is an entrance Test conducted by the UGC(University Grants Commission)at the national level for the admission in PhD research as well as for teaching jobs at the university level in India.

The Eligibility for the NET is-:

Master's Degree from university recognised by the UGC with minimum of 55% marks and 50% for SC/ST/PWD candidates.

Those in the Final year of the Master Degree programme are also eligible.

NOTE-: Graduation marks are not taken into account in the Eligibility criteria for the NET exams. So you don't have to worry about that if you satisfy the Master's degree criteria you will be eligible.

UGC-NET is conducted twice in a year,

1.In June->Notification is announced in March.

2.In December->Notification is announced in September.

As the last date for the June examinations are over you will have to wait till December for the NET exams.

Please visit the link www.ugc.ac.in for any other information.

Good Luck.

National Eligibility Test is conducted for college lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship. For which your marks in post graduation are considered. What you have scored in graduation or even 12th standard is completely irrelevant.

The requirement for NET is post graduation degree and the minimum percentage of marks which you should secure in the post graduation degree. Nowhere what you have scored in graduation will be asked or evaluated to appear for NET.

So to keep it simple, all you need to worry about is marks in post graduation. If you are meeting them then there is no reason to be worried about. You can apply for the NET exam when its conducted next, which will be December 2013.

To appear for NET exam is December this year, you will have to wait for a official notification by the University Grants Commission after which the registration procedure will begin.

This notification may be released towards the end of October or in early part of November.

UGC NET Eligibility

1. You should be Indian citizen for UGC NET exam.

2. Post graduation degree is the minimum requirement.

3. Should have secured 55 percent marks in it.

4. SC/ST need 50 percent in post graduation.

5. The requirement for OBC is same as General.

6. Even during final year you can apply for NET.

7. But such candidates have to submit the degree in 2 years.

8. The subject for which you will appear depends of post graduation course.

9. For JRF the age limit is 28 years.

10. There is 3 years relaxation for OBC.

11. The relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST.

12. Minimum age to apply for lectureship is 19 years.

13. There is no upper age limit.

Dear Aparna,

No Marks are not taken in consideration while defining the eligibility of a candidate for the NET Examination.

To be eligible for the NET , the educational qualification that is considered is that whether the candidate has completed Post Graduation with a minimum of 55% marks or not from any UGC recognized University.

If the candidate has fulfilled the required educational qualification only then he/she is eligible for the NET other wise not.

The Acronym "NET" stands for National Eligibility Test. This Test is conducted twice every year by the University Grants Commission.

Candidates like you who are interested in the below mentioned posts are most likely to apply for the NET :

* College Lectureship

* Junior Research Fellowship

The National Eligibility Test is conducted as per the following pattern :

The NET Exam Eligibility Criteria :

** The candidate must hold a Master`s degree in any stream from any UGC recognized university.

** The candidate must have obtained a minimum of 55% marks in PG.

** Candidates in final year of Post Graduation can also apply.

** No Age Limitation is applicable for the Lectureship post.

** The age limit for the JRF post is 20-28 years for General Candidates.

** OBC Candidates get a relaxation of 3 years in upper age whereas SC/ST Candidates get 5 years relaxation.

** The candidate must be a citizen of India.

This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.
