For the IES exam first of all you need to be an engineer. For this you need to have studied Physics, Chemistry and Maths in the 12th standard. Also you need to appear for the engineering entrance exam. You need to pursue any of the four engineering streams i.e electronics, electrical, mechanical or civil. Based on the stream opted by you can select the stream for the exam.

hi...the minimum educational qualification for the ies exam is grauation in any engineering field and also there is an age limit of minimum of 21 years and maximum of 30 years for an general category student ,and also the examination is held only for four subjects which are civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics and telecommunication engineering and electrical engineering.so if you are interested in joing ies then you should take any of the above mentioned engineering subjects after completion of your 12th class and start preparing seriously from now on ,i am attaching the 2011 ies brochure to give the complete details of the exam, also its better to join some coaching sentre during third year of final year of your engineering because that would be really helpful

IES i.e Indian Engineering Services is a combined competitive examination is
conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the Indian
Engineering Services (IES).The Exam is conducted in the month of may/june .

The syllabus for IES is similar to the syllabus of the GATE So it mean
that there is no optional subjects present in this exam.

There are objective as well as subjective papers .

One paper for GS (General Science) .This exam is of 2 hrs duration.
Technical subject is divided into two papers PAPER 1 and PAPER 2.

Eligibility for the exam::

The candidates must be engineering graduates in one of the following branches :

Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

You must be between 21 years to 30 years on the 1st August. There is some relaxation in upper age limit for reserved caste students.

Since you have only passed the 12Th class which means that you are not eligible for the exam.

Thumbs up Re: What should I do to clear IES Exam having completed 12th?

Hello friend ......

As you have just passed the 12th board exam you are not eligible to sit for the IES exam .

IES is one of the most prestigious exam of India which is conducted by the UPSC.
IES is Indian Engineering Services .
The eligibility for this entrance exam is that one should have completed their b.tech / b.e from a recognized university and should have scored a minimum of the 60% of the marks in the b.tech/ b.e degree.
And the age limit is 21 years to 30 years for the general category students and there is upper age relaxation for the OBC (3 years) and for the SC/ST (5 years).

Only the core branch students can apply in the IES exam that is the Electrical , electronics and communication , Civil and the Mechanical .

After you camplete your b.tech degree then you can apply .
If you work very hard and have strong determination then you can easily crack the IES.
You can even prepare yourself for the IES if you have your basics very clear or else you can join in the coaching institutes like that of the :
IES Academy http://www.iesacademy.com
IES Made Easy http://www.iesmadeeasy.org

So best of luck for your future ....
