IAS stands for Indian Administrative Services and to become IAS Officer, you have to complete your Graduation first in any discipline and apply for the UPSC Civil services examination, You can apply for Preliminary examination of CSE only after publishing the Notification.

The Notification of Next year Civil services examination is going to be Published in next year i.e on 02/Feb/2012.

The last date of apply for CSE Preliminary examination is 04/March/2012.

The examination will be held soon on 19/May/2012.

When the Notification published, soon you can apply for this examination online, you have to fill the application form online from the official website of UPSC.

The application form available in 2 parts and you have to fill both the parts completely for complete registration purpose.

The examination is conducted in two stages i.e Preliminary and Mains and if you cracked the preliminary examination, only then you are eligible for Mains, Preliminary examination is objective with negative marking and there are two papers in this examination. So please prepared well for this examination well as per the pattern.

UPSC fills IAS, IPS and other central service postions by a three stage process
1. CSAT
2. Civil Services Mains
3. IAS Interview

Civil Services Mains is main and deciding phase of IAS exams conducted by UPSC. Each candidate needs to write subjective answers to multiple papers.

IAS interview is the final phase of the UPSC IAS Exams.

Any degree holder from any recognized University in any discipline with any percentage is eligible provided he/she fulfills other UPSC eligibility criteria

Students who are in final year in 2012 can appear for UPSC CSAT 2013 if they can obtain their degree by July 2013.

how to start preparing for IAS?

IAS - Indian Administrative Service, to become an IAS officer one has to crack Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate.

The selection of candidate is through three phases:-

-CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test - Preliminary Exam

-Civil Service Main Exam

-Personal Interview

So interested candidate can apply for Civil Service exam in the final year of Graduation Degree and can appear for Civil Service Preliminary Exam.

For he forthcoming Civil Service Exam 2013, the notification will come out in the month of February 2013.

When To Apply For IAS Prelims

Civil Service Exams is conducted every year by UPSC for selection to the Indian Administrative Services..

A candidate can appear for the exam if :-

>> Candidate is within the age limit of 21-30 years, 21-33 years if OBC and 21-35 years if SC/ST..

>> Candidate must be either in the final year of graduation or must have already completed graduation in any stream from a recognized institute..

>> General candidates have max 4 attempts..OBC have 7 and SC/ST/PD candidates can appear for the exam as long as their age permits..

The forms for the Prelims Exam shall be available from 2nd February,2013 to 4th March,2013

Prelims shall be conducted on 19th May,2013

If you clear the Prelims then you can appear for the Mains on 8th November,2013

If you clear the Mains then you will be called for the final interview..

For applying for the prelims, you need to be eligible for the IAS exam.
The eligibility is that you should be a graduate or in final year of your graduation in any disciple from a recognized university of India. And your age should be in the limit of 21-30 years.
Forms will be available in February and the prelims examination will be conducted in May.
