The minimum eligibility with which a candidate can join Indian Air Force is by completion of 12th class from a recognized institute with Mathematics and Physics as the compulsory subjects.

For this, the candidate has to crack NDA Exam being conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) twice a year.

This Exam is the common entrance exam for the candidates to be placed in the following Defence services like
-Army wing
-Navy wing
-Air Force wing

One should have completed 12th class with Mathematics and Physics as the compulsory subjects to be eligible for this exam to join Army wing.

Candidates who are pursuing final year of 12th class with these subjects are also eligible to take up this exam.

One should be in the age group of 16 1/2 years to 19 years to be eligible for this exam.

In addition, one should be an unmarried male candidate to take up this exam.

As you are a canddiate with an age of 23 years, you are not eligible to take up this exam.

If you have completed Graduation after completion of your 12th class, you can appear for CDS (Combined Defence Services Exam) which is also being conducted by UPSC to join Indian Air Force Academy.

You can take up this exam even if you are a candidate pursuing final year of Graduation also.

For detailed information on this exam, you can visit

* Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) is a unique test. It is aimed at assessing a candidate’s aptitude to be trained as a pilot. PABT is being used as an independent selection device to induct potential officers into Flying Branch of Indian Air Force. PABT comprises three tests viz Instrument Battery Test (INSB), Sensory Motor Apparatus Test (SMA) and Control Velocity Test (CVT). Instrument Battery Test (INSB) is a paper pencil test and other two are machine tests. The Instruments Battery Test (INSB) comprises two parts. This test assesses assimilation of the briefing and the ability of an individual to read and interpret the dials of an instrument panel of an aircraft. The candidates who score the minimum laid down criteria are subjected to the machine test. The machine test includes Sensory Motor Apparatus Test (SMA) and Control Velocity Test (CVT). These tests measure the psychomotor co-ordination skill of the individual. These tests are conducted on a single day and administered only once in life time.

** Phase I of testing gets over on 1st day for all type of entries except NDA/CDSE/NCC/Direct entry for which it gets over on second day. Only those candidates who qualify in Phase I shall be retained at AFSB for further testing of Phase II. NDA/CDSE candidates who do not qualify the PABT will still be tested for their second/third choice.

At the conference held on the last day, all the assessors i.e. the Psychologist, Ground Testing Officer and the Interviewing Officer, discuss your personality and decide on recommending you or not. Those recommended by the AFSBs will require to fill up certain documents at the Boards and subsequently move to the next step.

ImageStep 3 - Conducting of Medical Examinations
If you have applied for the Flying branch and are found suitable by the Selection Board, you would be sent to the Air Force Central Medical Establishment, New Delhi or the Institute of Aerospace Medicine, Bengaluru for a thorough medical examination.

If you have applied for the Technical or Ground Duty Branches and are found suitable, you may be asked to return home and await a call for a medical examination or be sent directly for the medical examination.

Step 4 - Preparing All India Merit List
An All India Merit List is compiled on the basis of your performance at the AFSB and subject to being medically fit. Based on the vacancies available in various branches / sub branches, Air HQ would issue joining instructions to join Air Force Academy for the training.

As you given you qualification is 12th so after this you can only eligible for NDA exam.
But your age is 23 so you can not apply for the NDA exam.
If you have any graduation degree, hen you can apply for the CDS exam and also some exam which is taken by only air force.
For the more detail you can see the website of the Indian Air Force.

Air Force can be joined basically in two ways:-

NDA(National Defence Academy) and CDS(Combined Defence Service) conducted by UPSC twice every year.

For NDA Indian Air Force one must be a unmarried Indian male having 12th standard pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics fronm a recognised Board within the age of 16.5 to 19 years of age.

As you have already crossed the maximum age of 19 years, you are not eligible to apply for NDA.

If you have completed Graduation with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognised University and an Indian National within the age of 19 to 25 years of age then you can apply for Indian Air Force Academy through CDS exam.

For more information you may log on to official website of UPSC i.e. www.upsc.gov.in

There are also other way to join Indian Air Force after 12th but as non commissioned officer.
