IAF Airman - How to become an IAF Airman?
IAF was officially founded in the year 1932. It is a part of the Indian Armed Force and has its headquarters at New Delhi. They offer many opportunities for the young aspiring students who wish to become a part IAF. IAF airman is one such post for the young unmarried men.
The interested candidates can join as Airman in IAF in either Technical or Non-Technical sections. Each section provides the candidates with opportunities to develop their skills in the field. According to one’s performance, talent and experience they can move to the high ranks in the posts. They can even get the high designated post as an Officer in IAF.
The ranks of the airmen in IAF are
- Aircraftsman
- Leading Aircraftsman
- Corporal
- Sergeant
- Junior Warrant Officer
- Warrant Officer
- Master Warrant Officer
The selection for the posts of airmen is done through a series of procedures. There will be written test initially. National level selection tests are organized in various ASCs all over the country. The selected candidates have to take part of the rigorous training process in various institutes as prescribed by the board. It will be for 12 weeks and after this training they are posted as Airmen in any of the IAF stations.
Qualifying Exam
Those who wish to become Airman in IAF should possess a minimum qualification of 10+2 or intermediate from any recognized institutions. The graduates, diploma holders and post graduates must satisfy any of the three combatant groups as prescribed by IAF for the Technical and Non-Technical trades. However the candidates who have cleared the initial phase are allotted to the suitable trade.
Who is eligible to apply?
The candidates should satisfy some eligibility criterion apart from their educational qualifications to join as Airman. They should be an Indian national. Only unmarried male candidates are allowed to take part the recruitment process. Also their age should be between 16 and 21 years. Only those who have finished higher secondary examination with at least 50% are eligible for applying. The diploma holders, graduates and post graduates can also apply.

- Complete 10th and higher secondary studies with good academic scores from any reputed institutions.
- Pursue graduation or post graduation from any reputed universities. Diploma holders also have a chance to apply.
- Keep reading the employment/ national/ regional newspapers for getting any information about the Airmen recruitment drive and send application for the same.
Skills required for an IAF airman
The candidates should have a keen interest to serve in this field. They need some specific skills to become an Airman in IAF. They should be aware of the technical trades first. They should have excellent skills in testing and maintenance of aircrafts and related machines. Candidates should be able to work and support various functions in any places. Physical fitness is important for these people.
