VAO is the basic level administration job. He will be assisted by the village assistant. The main duties of VAO are: Revenue records, Tax collection, Certificate issuing, reporting, inquiry, data collection, election duties etc. Regarding the preparation for the VAO exam (Group IV), the aspirant can clear the examination if he or she study well. The aspirant has to study 6th to 10th standard Tamil Nadu State Board books of Science, Social Science and Mathematics thoroughly. If possible you can also join in a coaching class also. You can also study 11th and 12th political science books, for economics you have to study +1, +2 economics books. Regarding history you have to study well the Tamil Nadu history and Indian Freedom Struggle.

There is no such advantage of taking Administrative Service degree for the Civil Services examination because of the fact that any one who has done bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university is eligible for the examination and what matters is your performance in the three stages of this exam:

1. Civil Services Preliminary examination.

2. Mains examination.

3. Personal interview.

So, you can take up any degree course as per your interest so that you can excel in it as well as in mains exam as an optional subjects.

For becoming an IAS officer you need to crack UPSC exam and your degree is just a eligibility criteria for it. It will not have any effect on the selection procedure.

Therefore, you have to be really well prepared for the prelims and main exam first then only you have any chance of getting a call for interview which is a last stage. Selection is totally based in the UPSC exam.

As to become a IAS officer you need to appear in Civil Service Entrance examination which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission for every year.
Minimum Educational qualification required for IAS officer is that the candidate should be complete Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification from reorganized university.

So, if you completed graduation course then you’re eligible to apply for IAS Entrance examination.

In Graduation level you can choose administrative degree for getting good knowledge.
And also that will reduce your preparation time also.
So, plan for IAS in better way now to crack the IAS.
