You can apply for JEST (Joint Entrance Screening Test), if you are interested in Ph.D in Astronomy and Astrophysics from top Institutes of India. The eligibility for this entrance examination is given below.

You must have a Master's Degree in Physics / Applied Mathematics / Astronomy / Computer Science or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or technology with adequate background in physics and mathematics.

Those who are CSIR NET/GATE/UGC NET can directly apply for Ph.D admission in most of the top Universities without appearing for JEST. There are many top colleges that give admission on the basis of NET and GATE score.

The top Astronomy colleges that offer Ph.D are given below:

2. Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bangalore

3. Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubhaneswar

5. Inter-University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune
