I have a Master's Degree in History with 59% marks, however through distance learning. So, I did like to know, if I can PhD in History or not after pursuing Master's through distance learning?

You have completed masters degree in History with 59%, so you are eligible for Ph.D entrance exam but you should qualify in UGC NET exam.

Educational qualification required for UGC NET exam is masters degree from a recognized university with above 55% marks. 5% relaxation is given for SC/ST category candidates. Final year student are also eligible for NET exam.

There is no age criteria for NET exam but for JRF posts, your age should be below 28 years.

Yes, any distance learning degree from a recognized university is valid for Ph.D admission in India. Just make sure that you have scored at least 55% marks in the post graduation degree.

Admission will be based on the performance in written exam and interview conducted by the concerned university or institution. If possible try to qualify NET/SET which will help you get exemption from any entrance exam.
