Biotechnology, which is shortly referred to as biotech is a field of applied biology, which involves the use of bioprocesses and living organisms in medicine, technology, engineering and other fields needing bio-products. Biotechnology also uses those products for manufacturing purposes and modern use of similar terms include genetic engineering as well as tissue and cell culture technologies. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi:

All India Institute of Medical Sciences was inaugurated in the year 1956 and the institute was built with grant from the Government of New Zealand. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences was established in New Delhi when the former Prime Minister of Jawaharlal Nehru’s proposal for setting up the institution in Calcutta was turned down by the then Chief Minister of the state of West Bengal Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. While the MD/MS courses offered by the AIIMS focuses on breadth on the subject, the Ph. D course focuses on offering in-depth knowledge on the particular subject.

Admission to Ph. D in Biotechnology course:

Admission to Ph. D Course in Biotechnology in AIIMS will be  subject to the availability of grants/fellowships/research funds from recognized funding agencies. Admission will be finalized only when evidence of availability of research fellowship/funds/grants for the project is submitted by the selected candidates to the head of the department of biotechnology.

Eligibility requirement for Ph. D Biotechnology admission:

Candidates with Master’s degree in Biotechnology either M. Sc Biotechnology/M. Tech Biotechnology/MD/MS in the field of medicine are eligible to apply to the Ph. D in Biotechnology course offered by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. AIIMS is approved by the MCI with an intake capacity of three students per year for the Ph. D in Biotechnology course.

    I am completed Msc biotechnology with 83% . I am in big confusion that , whether to do Phd in biotech or M.Tech in Biotechnology……. reply me.plz….i am in big confusion.
