Sonipat District is one among the 21 districts in the state of Haryana and the district is located in the northern part of the nation. The town is Sonipat is the headquarters of the district and it is a part of the National Capital Region along with other cities like Meerut, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Noida, Bhiwadi Industrial Town, Alwar, Panipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Rewari, Palwal, Mewat, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Delhi.

The district is bounded by the Delhi Union Territory to its south, the state of Uttar Pradesh to the east, Jind District to the north-west and Panipat District to the north. The name of the district is also spelled as Sonepat District.

C.R. State College of Engineering is the full form of Chhotu Ram State College of Engineering and the college began its operations from the academic year 1987-88 and it holds the pride of being the first engineering college to be established under the control of the Government of Haryana.
