Government Jobs in Postal Sector
The government postal sector in India is functioning under the brand name of India Post and this department has more than 1,50,000 post offices and the system followed by the postal department in India is the most widely distributed system in the world. Due to its services not only to urban areas, but also to remote rural areas, the postal service is India is involved in other services like financial and small savings banking services.
India Post is the only government run postal sector company in India and this company has several post offices all over the country. Candidates with interest towards postal sector can find jobs in any state post offices in India.
Different job positions existing in the Indian Postal Sector:
Indian postal sector recruits candidates for the following job positions to work in different states. Actually, each state has their own recruitment procedure and the list of positions available in the postal sector in India is:
• Postal Assistants in Post Offices
• Sorting Assistant
• Postal Assistant Saving Bank Control Organization
• Postal Assistant in Circle Office
• Mail Monitoring Officer
• Sorting Assistants in Railway Mail Service
• Postal Assistant in Regional Office
• Postal/Sorting Assistants in Army Postal Service
• Postal/Sorting Assistants in Foreign Post Offices
• Postal Assistants in Mail Motor Services
• Postal Assistants in Postal Stores Depot
Normally, government of India and state government appoint candidates to the post of sorting and postal assistant by conducting recruitment examination.
What is the pay scale and age criterion for the positions of postal and sorting assistants?
Pay scale for both these positions is Rs. 5200-20200 apart from grade pay of Rs. 2400 and the candidates will also be offered with admissible allowances. The minimum age to apply for these positions in Indian Postal sector is 18 years and maximum age limit is 25 years.
What is the educational qualification required to apply for the position of postal/sorting assistants?
For these positions, candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination from an approved board and they should have studied English as a compulsory subject. Candidates should also have knowledge of the local language in the state in which they are applying for the position. Candidates with computer and typing knowledge will be given preference. In the case of candidates applying for the post of sorting/postal assistant in circle or regional offices, typing knowledge in Hindi with a speed of 25 words per minute or English at a speed of 30 words per minute is essential.
How will be candidates selected for these positions?
As mentioned, earlier candidates will be recruited through recruitment examination, which will be conducted for 100 marks, which is divided into 10 marks for computer typing test, 50 marks for aptitude test and 40 marks for the marks secured by the candidates in their higher secondary examination.
The postal sector is coming under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Government of India. Even though, nowadays, with the development of internet and telecommunication services, the number of people using postal services has reduced, still the sector offers employment opportunities.

12 pass from recognized board with english as compalsory subject candidates are eligible.call latter are send 10 times of the total vacancy in that particular district. Merit list is prepared on the basis of 12 percentage.
