The institute was established under the Ministry of Human Resources and is approved by the Government of India.

Eligibility criteria:
Candidates applying for PhD courses in IISER must have be a post graduate in Science or should be a M.Sc degree holder and should have secured at least 55 percent marks in their examination.
Also candidates having scores in examinations like GATE/NET/JEST/ICMT/DBT-JRF/NBHM, are also eligible. Candidates with interest in research and graduate degree in engineering or Medicine or master’s degree in Agriculture are also eligible.
Important Dates:
• Last date for submission of application forms: end of April, 2011.
Stipend:
• Candidates admitted to PhD program will be given stipend.
Reservation:
Reservation of candidates will be done as per Government of India Norms.
