There were so many talks about the Indian Education sector and lot of complaints that it is performing badly. But in that hot discussion we forgot what we have achieved so far. Once up on a time in India, people used to live calmly and quietly and had only concern about how to get their food, shelter and clothing. But now we add one more on to our basic needs. One of the most prominent of them is education. The nation understands the importance of education in the personal as well as in the social life. The education industry is identified as one of the leading industry in our country.

Newer trends are emerging in this industry and also the world wide changes show its influence on our education system. These trends and technologies have changed our conventional system and we are living in such a world, which we could have been never dreamed in the previous generation. Our students are exposed to a number of educational options and many new fields of education have emerged, which previously didn’t receive any importance.

These alternative areas now offer a wide range of career options and are commonly known as the new generation jobs. Some of these include Event management, RJ, Fashion designing, content writing, Web designing, Medical transcription and many more. Even though, engineering and medical fields are still holding on top in its demand, many other educational programs are being introduced in India. These programs create a large deviation from the traditional trends.

The recent developments in education that we are seeing recently have an important role to help students to understand the political as well as the socio-economic disputes of our civilization. One of the positive responses of the society to the education sector is the attention of shareholders, policy makers and public media. These people support the sector in such a way that it increases the attractiveness of the education industry. Some of these recent changes are mentioned below.

Online Education

During the previous generation, people would have never thought of having a degree while sitting at home. But in today’s scenario completing a degree is turning out to be more and more costly and highly competitive. Along with this with the popularity of online education it is more accessible by a large number of students.   There are immense opportunities in the E-learning program in India and the distance education also go hand in hand with the online education. Both the economically backward candidates and the professions can opt for the online or distance mode of education because it saves the money and time of the aspirants.  The postal programs, interactive CD-ROM, Broadband courses and the pocket PC or the Mobile teaching courses made such programs viable to the candidates.

Globalization of the Learning Process

We are living in the globalized world. The internationalization of every sector is important in building up the status of individuals. Globalization brings the new international participation in our education sector from foreign investors, institute and universities from abroad. This resulted in the increase of interaction with international faculties and students in our universities and institutes. At present our institutions also have a large number of foreign students.  It also has laid a new path for joint research in many fields and thereby facilitated import of knowledge.

Focus on Quality rather than Quantity

Quality education seems always a problem in the Indian education sector. We always believe in the qualitative aspect and assess on ‘how much’ rather on ‘how well’. But the concern on the transparency and excellence brings some changes in the quantity system and new norms are put forward for improving quality. The institutions which are up and coming are expected to bring accountability in curriculum as well as the information sharing part. There will be standard on the quality aspects and more practical based evaluation will be put forward in this sector.

Technology Adoption

India is known for its best brains and worst technology. But the growing corporate collaborations and entry of MNCs in the Indian market bought in vast changes in this set-up. We have  uncovered to the advance technological world and understand the urgent need of implementing this in our educational system. Much software’s are being introduced in the education sector like moodle, campus managing software etc.

The program management tools are found to be great help for the teachers and the E-book/libraries and online exams also made it more convenient. The video conferencing classes have changed the face of lecture classes.  We are now learning the effective use of technology in education industry, even it is not completely implemented in most of the education institution.

Professionalism in Education Sector

When it comes to professionalism in the education sector we lacks far behind other countries. There are no professional talents in the administrative and also among the teaching staffs. This is one of the major challenges we are facing in the sector, but recently the upcoming foreign as well as the private entities in the sector have changed the situation. They introduced more and more professionals in the education segment and endured required quality of faculties.  The Government promotes program of more talents into the sector by introducing new policies and offer more facilities for the teachers and the professionals. If the people in the education sector are not eminent performers, it will affect the delivery of knowledge.

Facilitating option for growth

Facilitating option for growth

Even though this changes and trends bring a positive impact in the education industry there are some negative effect also. A major one is the cost of pursuing education which is increasing in such a phase that it is not affordable to the lower income group.  But the alternative, online education comes cheaper; it is not accessible to every corner of the nation.

Another fact is that, students need to cover lots of sources and number of books to get the needed information. As the syllabus gets improvised, more topics are included and this will put additional burden on to the young shoulders. Even a lot of efforts are taken to make the process as enjoyable as possible, while the children are having their share of suffering.

One another point is concerned with the job opportunities. Our system doesn’t ensure the guarantee of providing jobs.  Many institutes are advertising on 100% placement after the course, but we know that it is only a promotional theme. Indian graduates are not getting the job matching with their profile; they are forced to find jobs in the lower profile. Though the Internet provides many more opportunities like web designing, article writing etc. it doesn’t support diminishing unemployment ratio.

But the nation understands the significance of education and its importance in the national development. Even we are not completely ignoring the conventional system, but we adopt the new happenings hoping for the better future. New trends are emerging in this sector and the existing one is undergoing more evolution.  We are making our system flexible so that more Obama’s can say “If India can do so as America.”
