Vidyasagar University was established in the year 1978 by the Government of West Bengal and 30 colleges in the district of Midnapore came under the jurisdiction of this university. The university is offering different courses under the faculties of science and arts & Commerce. Under the faculty of science, 14 departments are functioning and in the faculty of arts & commerce, 12 departments are functioning thereby making a total of 26 departments in the university.
