List of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Entrance Exams
The UPSC entrance exam is carried out for the recruitment of candidates to the many departments of the Indian Government. An interview is held for those candidates who clear the written examination. A list of the many entrance exams conducted by the UPSC is given below.
List of Entrance Exams
Combined Defense Services Examination – Candidates require a degree from an accepted University or its equivalent
National Defense Academy and Naval Academy Examination- Candidates should have a Bachelors degree with Mathematics and Physics or a BE degree.
Civil Services Examination- Candidates must have a degree from an accepted University or Institute. The candidate should be in-between 21 and 30 years. It is relaxed in the case of backward communities.
Engineering Services Examination- Candidates should be graduates in engineering from an acknowledged university or equivalent. Candidates appearing in the final engineering exam or its equal can also apply.
Indian Forest Service Examination- Candidates require a Bachelor’s degree in subjects like Botany, PCM, Geology, Zoology or a graduate degree in Agriculture/Forestry/Engineering from a recognized university. Those Candidates who are appearing in their final exams are eligible to apply too.
National Defense Academy & Naval Academy Exam – Candidates appearing for the Defense exam needs a pass in class 10+2 or equivalent examination from an accepted university or board. Those who are applying for the naval exam requires a pass in class 12 or its equal with Mathematics and Physics.
Central Police Forces Examination- Candidates must be graduates in any discipline from an accepted university or board. Those who are writing their final year exams can apply too provided that they submit the requisite proof of qualification.
Indian Economic / Indian Statistical Service Examination- Candidates applying for the Indian Economic Service must be graduates in Statistics or Economics. Those who are appearing for the Indian Statistical Service, requires a degree in Statistics/Mathematics/Economics from a recognized university.
Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination - The candidate must have cleared the class XII Examination from an accepted University or board. The candidate must have studied PCM. The minimum age of the candidate must be in-between 17 - 21 years.
Career prospects
Candidates who clear the UPSC Entrance Exam successfully can find jobs in many sections of the central and state government, like- The Armed forces, The Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Forest Service, Indian Engineering Service, Indian railway service, Indian postal service, Indian Custom and Central Excise Service, Audit & Accounts Service, Indian Defense Accounts Service, Indian Revenue Service, Indian civil Accounts Service, Indian Audit & Accounts Service, Indian Information Service etc. The Indian Govt. has a fixed pay package for its civil servants. The initial salary will be around Rs. 8000 to Rs 13, 500/-. Senior officers may get as much as Rs. 22,000/- – Rs.24, 000/- each month. As the position of the officers’ increase, the salary gets raised too. Besides the impressive salary, civil servants also get many grants such as Travel Allowance, Leave, Medical facilities etc.
