Pay scale for System Administrator in Government Jobs
A System Administrator, who is also called as Sysadmin or Systems Administrator is a person employed by most of the organizations to operate and maintain a computer system or a network of computer systems. These personnel might be members of the electronics & communication department or information technology department of an organization.
Nowadays, with increased use of computers in almost every organization, even government organizations are also recruiting candidates for the position of system administrator. Government organizations in India recruit candidates for the position of system administrator at a pay scale of Rs. 9300-34800 plus a Grade Pay of Rs.4200.
Difference in pay scale:
The aforesaid pay scale is not applicable to all public sector organizations, some organizations bring system administrators under the pay brand of Rs. 15600-39100 plus a Grade Pay of Rs. 7600, while some organizations offer them a consolidated pay of around Rs. 16000 to Rs. 20000 per month. Therefore, the pay scale of system administrator is decided based on the financial stability and strength of the organization. However, they can expect a salary of not less than Rs. 6000 in government organizations in India.

To apply for the position of System Administrator, candidates must have completed their Bachelor of Engineering/Technology with first-class in any of the branches like information technology, electronics and computer science or candidates with MCA can also apply to this position. Even some organizations recruit BCA/B. Sc computer science graduates for the position of System Administrator.
However, when comparing the pay scale offered by public sector companies for the position of system administrator, organizations recruiting Engineering/technology graduates are offering a higher pay scale as compared to organizations recruiting BCA/B. Sc graduates.
Selection process:
Selection of candidates for the position of system administrator is mostly based on the performance of the candidates in the personal interview conducted by respective organizations.
Age requirement:
Most of the government organizations recruit candidates between the age group of 21 and 35 years of age for the position of system administrator.
What are the duties of candidates appointed for the position of system administrator?
System administrators are offered with a wide range of responsibilities and their role differs from one organization to another. They are usually charged with maintenance of servers, supporting and installation of servers and computer-systems and planning and responding to any problems pertaining to network of computers or a single computer system. The other responsibilities of these personnel might include scripting or light programming, supervising or offering training to computer operators, project management for projects related to computer systems or working as consultant for computer problems beyond the knowledge of technical support staff.
