TANUVAS started as an agricultural institute in Saidapet which provides the aspirants with diploma on veterinary and animal sciences. This institute was acknowledged as a college by the early 1900s.Soon recommendations from higher authorities upgraded the college to offer degree courses in veterinary science and soon became the first veterinary college in India to be affiliated to University of Madras in the mid 1930s.Later in the 1970s the college became academically affiliated to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. TANUVAS is now governed by its board of management and is now a reputed university offering under graduate and post graduate courses as well as PhDs.

PhDs are offered in many disciplines of which the few with the most demands are Animal biotechnology, Animal genetics and Breeding, Animal reproduction Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Diary science, Meat Science and technology, Poultry Science etc.

Structure of TANUVAS PhD. Test

The entrance test question paper consists of 75 objective type questions, each of them having multiple choices for the right answers, and each question carrying 1 mark each, hence 75 being the total marks for the entrance exam. The duration of the exam is 1 ½ hours. The answers are to be shaded with a ball point pen in the OMR answer sheet as per the instructions given in the coding sheet.

Syllabus for TANUVAS PhD. Test

The syllabus of the TANUVAS PhD entrance test is same as the M.V.Sc/M.F.Sc syllabus relative to the field of specialization.

Eligibility Criteria

A candidate under the trimester system who has secured 3 out of 4 OPGA can apply. Even candidates who have secured 7.0 out of 10.0 under semester system are eligible. Candidates who have minimum 70% total in their Master’s degree can also apply for admission to Ph.D course. A minimum pass is enough for SC/ST candidates. Candidates from Tamil Nadu are allotted only 75% of the admission strength. All candidates should apply and appear for the entrance exam conducted by TANUVAS.

Candidates who haven’t undergone Undergraduate degree courses in Tamil Nadu, seeking admission under Tamil Nadu state quota should submit a Nativity Certificate issued by the concerned authority in a format preferred to and given in the application form, on selection under the quota.

The candidates with B.V.Sc & A.H degree and Master’s degree in the concerned fields of specialization approved by recognized universities are eligible. So to apply for a PhD Degree Programme in a particular field, the candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in the relative fields that are concerned with the field that he is interested to take a PhD in. Candidates should necessarily select the same area of specialized as in the Masters level. They will not be allowed to change streams.

The final selection of candidates will be based on the following factors with their respective weightage.

• Entrance Examination – 75
• Merit/OPGA in M.V.Sc/M.F.Sc – 40
• Service/Experience – 10
• Publications – 15
• Medals / Awards - 10

How to Apply?

The application forms will be available in the University itself. Alternatively the forms can be downloaded online from the official website of the University –www.tanuvas.ac.in.The registration fee for Indian Nationals is Rs 600/- and for SC/ST it’s Rs.300/-.For foreign nationals, the registration fee is $50/-.

The registration fee should only be sent in the form of demand draft. It should be in favor of “Finance officer, TANUVAS, Chennai-51”.

Applications received without registration fee will be rejected.

Applications received after the due date of submission will be rejected. The applications should be sent in a self addressed envelope stamped for Rs 5/-.

How to fill the Form?

Filling the application forms requires the candidates to be very careful, precise and accurate. Filling application forms indifferently will result in errors or incorrect entries. Such incorrect entries will result in severe consequences affecting the candidate’s admission or even nullifying their application. Black ball point pen is recommended for filling the form.

Writing mistakes are not to be crossed out and use of whiteners is suggested if they occur. Read guidelines to fill the application form correctly and accurately from the brochure that the candidates receive along with the application form. The candidate’s most recent passport sized photograph should be submitted along with the form. Other requirements will be given in the information brochure or prospectus. The form should be submitted on or before the last date published by the University.
