In future you can apply for the Indian Police Service by clearing the Civil Services Examination. The exam takes place every year and the registration starts during the months of February/March. Although there is no such rule.

You will have to appear for Civil Services Examination for Indian Police Service. Please remember that Civil Services Examination is also conducted for Indian Administrative Service as well Indian Forest Service.

Right now you are not eligible for this exam. You will have to wait till completion of graduation to apply for this exam. The exam is conducted in three stages:-

1. Preliminary Exam

There are two written tests that takes place in May/June. The score of preliminary exam are not included in your final tally and it is only used as qualifying exam to appear for the next stage.

If failed in preliminary exam, you can not continue ahead with the examination proces and apply once again next year.

2. Main Examination

You will crack as many as 9 written tests in Main Exam. It generally takes place in August. For this exam you must select 2 optional subject. There will be 2 written tests on each optional subject therefore choose the subjects wisely.

Do no go for subjects that are not related to your studies as it would be difficult to prepare for them. Any subject related to your graduation course is generally recommended.

3. Personal Interview

After the interview candidates are selected for Indian Police Service. However you are required to appear for medical test where you will have to prove that you are meeting the physical requirements of Indian Police Service. These physical requirements are:

1. Before I write them down please not that women candidate should not be pregnent at the time of these tests.

2. The Chest criteria is 84 cm for Male while 79 cm for Female. Expansion of 5 cm.

3. Height should be 165 cm Male and 150 cm female.

4. There is 5cm relaxation for ST candidates of both genders.

Graduation is the main criteria to appear for the Civil Services Examination. Apart from that you should meet the age limit which is different for General, OBC, SC and ST candidates.

IPS Eligibility

1. You should be Indian citizen.

2. Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

3. There is no criteria for marks.

Dear Manjunath,

Its nice to see your interest towards the IPS Entrance Exam and your intentions to become an IPS Officer.

As you have completed 12th with PCMB , so now you need to complete your graduation first in any stream from any recognized college/university.

This is because the minimum educational qualification required for the IPS Civil Services Exam is Graduation in any stream.

The Civil Services Exam is considered as the most prestigious and one of the toughest exams conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission.

The Civil Services Exam is conducted in the following phases :

a) Preliminary Examination

b) MAINS Examination

c) Personal Interview

The Exam is considered tough as the candidates have to pass in all the three exams mentioned above in order to clear the IPS Exam.

The Essential Requisites for the Civil Services Exam are :

** The candidate must have completed graduation in any stream from any recognized college/university.

** Candidates in final year of graduation can also apply for the civil services exam.

** The candidate must not have any pending backlog.

** The candidate`s age must lie in between 21-30 years (General Category).

** Age Relaxation :

a) OBC Candidates get a relaxation of 3 years in upper age.

b) SC/ST Candidates get a relaxation of 5 years in upper age.

** The candidate must be an Indian.

So , i advise you to complete Graduation if you want to appear for the IPS Entrance Exam better known as the Civil Services Exam.

This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.
