Re: How can I become an IAS officer? What is the requirement?
Those who have completed graduation can apply for the Indian Administrative Service through the entrance exam called Civil Services Examination. It is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
You should also complete the graduation first and then apply for the Indian Administrative Service. The job of IAS officer is to implement government schemes by consistently visiting the areas and he/she also has to ensure that public funds are being used properly and there is no irregularity. Generally students start to prepare for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) during final year of graduation or after completing it. I will recommend you to wait till completing the graduation and only then start the prepare for the Indian Administrative Service. To start with, you can buy NCERT books for Class 12th and study them. There are several sample papers online and the previous years question papers which you should download. Read a lot of newspapers and political magazines and ensure that not a single major event across the world is missed by you. After every few days of study, you should start to crack the previous year's question papers. It would help you understand weaknesses and your strength. I will also recommend you to decide the 2 optional subjects for the Main Examination in advance and also start to prepare for them. Its better to choose subjects that are related to your course. IAS Eligibility 1. Indian citizenship is necessary to apply for IAS. 2. Minimum qualification should be graduation degree. 3. There is no marks criteria. 4. Your age should at least be 21 years. 5. Upper age limit is 30 years. 6. There are no physical requirements. Age Relaxation 1. Three years for OBC. 2. Five years for SC and ST. Selection Procedure 1. Preliminary Exam 2. Main Exam 3. Interview |

IAS is considered to be one of the most difficult exam and the chosen ones are always the best of the best. Therefore in order to crack this exam you need to give more than 100% in order to crack the three stages which constitutes the selection procedure of this exam. It must be noted that although for IPS and IFS apart from candidates of India, candidates of other countries like Nepal and Bhutan are also allowed to give this exam but for IAS only Indian citizens can apply. This is a mandatory condition which cannot be changed or altered. As far as the educational qualification is concerned it is quite simple. You just need to be a graduate. The subject does not matters but the degree should be a recognized one. This exam can also be given by the final year candidates and they must have the marksheets to show as a proof before the Mains starts. You must have attained the age of 21 years before applying for this exam and should not be more than 30 years as on 1st August of the year of examination. There is relaxation for the following categories:-
Following are the three stages which one needs to cross as i was discussing above:-
