Vellore Institute of Technology is one of the best engineering institutes in India. The institute offers high quality technical education to its aspirants from all over the country. For the admission of candidates in various B.Tech programmes the institute organizes an entrance examination called VITEEE every year at all India level.

The diverse disciplines in B.Tech programmes offered in VIT are Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Bio-Medical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Bioinformatics, Mechanical & Energy Engineering and Chemical Engineering.

Structure and Pattern of VITEEE exam

This entrance examination is considered to be one of the toughest examinations in India. But it is very scientifically oriented examination. The test includes about 120 questions of objective type. The duration of the examination is 150 minutes. Students have to pick out the correct answer for the multiple choices given for each question. And for each right one mark is awarded. There is no negative marking for wrong answers in this test.

The VITEEE question paper comprises of four sections. They are

  • Part 1 – Physics
  • Part 2 – Chemistry
  • Part 3 – Mathematics
  • Part 4 – Biology

Candidates who studied physics, chemistry and mathematics in the 12th class shall attend Part 1, 2 and 3. And those who studied biology as major in 12th shall attend Part 1, 2 and 4. Candidates who have studied biology and Mathematics can attend either Part 1, 2 and 3 or Part 1, 2 and 4. Those clearing the first group as mentioned above are eligible for all the B.Tech programmes. But those clearing the second section are only eligible to the streams i.e. Bioinformatics, Bio-Medical Engineering and Biotechnology.

The syllabus of the examination is mainly included from the 11th and 12th level academics of State board of HSE and CBSE. Each part of the question paper includes 40 questions with four answer choices for each question.

Qualification Criteria for VITEEE exam

The candidates appearing for this examination should satisfy some qualification criterion. The primary eligibility required is that they must be a Resident or Non-Resident Indian national. The educational qualification required is that the candidates must have passed or should be appearing for the 10+2 examinations of either the recognized State Board for Higher Secondary education or CBSE. Otherwise they should pass the intermediate or pre-degree of any recognized university or board.

Candidates satisfying this qualification through regular, fulltime and formal education are only eligible for applying VITEEE. The minimum percentage of marks obtained in these qualifying examinations should be at least 60% for general candidates and 50% for those from SC/ ST category and those hailing from

  • Nagaland
  • Sikkim
  • Tripura

Application Procedure of VITEEE exam

Candidates can procure the prospectus with information brochure for B.Tech programmes from any of the designate post offices by paying Rs.750/-. The information brochure will contain the necessary enclosures like application form and a self addressed envelope. They can also obtain the form from the university office at Vellore or Chennai by handling a DD of Rs.750/-. It is also possible for them to obtain application form via post. For this they must send the request form along with a self addressed envelope and fee as DD to the official address as specified.

Candidates can also apply for VITEEE through online. They must visit the official website of VIT for applying online. In what ever mode they procure the application form, they must finally send the filled up application form to the specified address of the university and it should be enclosed with all the necessary documents of proof.
