Refractory Engineering course and its indispensable need in the nuclear and thermal power plants

In thermal power plants steam generated by heat energy is used to drive steam turbines which are connected to generator for producing electricity. In nuclear power plants the heat is produced from nuclear reactors. Due to nuclear chain reactions large amount of energy in the form of heat is generated during nuclear reactions. The nuclear reactors should be able to withstand such large amount of heat and thus helping in the reactions to continue. The energy produced during nuclear reactions causes many hazards if not properly used. For all these reasons the nuclear reactors should be made of materials which are chemically inert, thermally resistant and possess specific coefficient of thermal conductivity. The materials used for this purpose in nuclear power plants and thermal power plants are known as refractory materials.

Refractory Engineering course

The course on Refractory engineering deals with the study of materials required for special chemical and thermal applications. These courses involve in studies about the properties and behaviour of materials that are used in reactors, furnaces, kilns, and incinerators. This course includes extensive studies of silicon, aluminium, magnesium, and calcium. The oxides of these materials are needed for making a perfect refractory. The students learn about the application of different materials through refractory study programs. B.Tech in Refractory engineering helps the students to find different job profiles in thermal and nuclear power plants, metals extraction units, etc. The students completing this course have a sound knowledge about different refractory materials. The eligibility for joining B.Tech Refractory Engineering is to pass senior secondary schooling in 10 + 2 pattern from a recognized university or board. Clearing the entrance exam is another mandatory need to join this course. B.Tech in Refractory Engineering is a four year course. After the completion of this course the students will have deep knowledge about the application of refractory materials.

Uses of Refractory Engineering course on nuclear and thermal power plants

Nuclear and thermal power plants need professionals having knowledge of different refractory materials. The refractory materials used in these plants are subject to many specifications. Due to this fact, the whole plant will come to standstill if there is any problem in refractory lining. Thus there is high demand for professionals with technical expertise, problem solving and innovative skills. The candidates completing B.Tech in Refractory engineering have all these skills needed in various thermal and nuclear power plants. Hence this course is considered to be of great significance, mostly in the nuclear and thermal power plants, which crave for refractory materials.
