Telecommunications, a discipline of Electronic Engineering, is a vast field. The people who work in this field are called as Telecom Engineers. A telecommunication engineer is in charge of developing and installing equipments of telecommunication and other facilities like fiber optics, electronic switching systems etc. Candidates who have completed any of these courses are sure to get good jobs in the telecommunication industry. Some of the most important branches of study in telecommunication are: Transmission Engineering, Network Engineer, Testing engineer, Service Engineer, Process Engineer etc. For those candidates who are interested in teaching jobs are also available. Post graduation or M.Tech in telecommunication course is also available for the students who would like to go for higher studies in the field.

Qualifying Exam

Some of the general entrance exams that are conducted for admission in telecom engineering are:

  • Joint Entrance Exam – This exam is conducted for the admission of students into IIT’s
  • AIEEE – This exam is carried out for getting admissions into the leading National Institute of Technologies.
  • Combined Entrance Exam – This is an All- India level exam. Candidates who qualify in this exam are admitted into colleges or institutes in their respective states.
  • GATE entrance exam – This exam is conducted for the admission of students into the M.Tech program in Telecommunication engineering

Who is eligible to apply?

Candidates who are applying for this course must be citizens of India. The students must be at least of 17 years at the time of applying. They must have completed their 10+2 exam with Physics and Mathematics. Students must have also studied Chemistry along with it. Candidates must have acquired atleast 55 percent marks in the final exams. After the completion of their higher secondary course, candidates can go for B.E or B.Tech in Telecommunication. As there are many departments in telecom engineering, candidates can proceed according to their preferences.

How to prepare for exam and interview?

Candidates who are appearing for the written exam must make sure that they are well prepared. The students can prepare themselves by answering question papers from previous years. They can also get ready by going for coaching at centers near to them. The candidates must remember to note down the date, location and time of the exam. At the time of the interview, the candidates must ensure that they reply to the point
