University of Kerala conducts the examination of written format for first year students for Part III Physics Subsidiary. The paper has a total of fifty marks. The question paper is divided into three segments or sections namely Section A, B and C. Section A consists of a total of four questions, out of which candidates have to attempt any two. These questions are long answer derivative type generally, and each question carries a maximum of seven marks. Derivations of Expression for moment of inertia or gravitational potential are primarily focused.

Section B is a subjective type and contains questions accordingly. There are twenty questions offered in the section and candidates have to attempt any twelve. Short precise answers are awarded with full marks. Each question carries a maximum of two marks. The last Segment, Section C contains numerical based questions only. The section contains about seven questions, with each question been awarded a maximum of three marks. Candidates only have to attempt four out seven. Questions from all around the syllabus are equally distributed in the three segments for offering the maximum leverage of passing to the candidates.
