Anna University was formed on 4th September 1978. The University was established by integrating two popular technical institutions that includes College of Engineering in Guindy & Madras Institute of Technology in Chrompet, and three popular Technological Departments that includes Alagappa College of Technology & School of Architecture and Planning. The Anna University became a large, highly renowned Affiliated University in December 2001. The University includes about 426 Self-financing Engineering Colleges, six Government Colleges and three Government-aided Engineering colleges affiliated to it. All the colleges affiliated to Anna University are located in various parts of Tamilnadu State.
