B. Tech in Electronics and Communications Engineering is one of the courses taught under the PTU. In 4th semester there is a paper named Electromagnetic Field Theory having a paper ID of EC-208. This paper contains two parts: Internal (40 marks) and External (60 marks). In This paper students are taught how electric and magnetic field produces electromagnetic effect, its uses, applications in antenna design etc.

Syllabus

The syllabus of the External Examination consists of the following topics: ‘Introduction: Review of Electrostatics and Magneto statics’; ‘Time Varying Field’; ‘Electromagnetic Waves’; ‘Guided Waves’; ‘Transmission Lines’; ‘Wave Guides’.

Internal Assessment

The internal assessment is of 40 marks and rest i.e. 60 marks for university exam. These 40 marks are for internal exams plus candidate’s attendance and performance in the class. A student has to be sincere in the class and has to prepare well for the internal exams in order to get maximum out of those 40 marks.

Process of the external examination

The total duration of the examination is 3 hours and the maximum marks of the examination are 60. An OMR sheet is provided along with the answer sheet. The subject code and the paper ID should be entered carefully in this OMR sheet. The question paper consists of 9 questions in all out of which only 7 are to be answered. The question paper is divided into 3 sections: Section A, Section B and Section C. Section A in a compulsory section. It contains 10 short questions, each carrying 2 marks. Section B contains 5 questions, out of which 4 are to be answered and each carries 5 marks each. The last section i.e., Section C consists of 3 questions of 10 marks each, out of which 2 are to be answered.
