The Staff Selection Commission has proposed a new and effective exam method for the applicants for all the Government Jobs that come under the SSC. The Applicants who wishes to apply and join the various government jobs will only have to appear in a single exam. The posts will vary from IAS officers, Clerks, bank offers and many more. By appearing in this Common Screening test the candidate will get an option to get in to various jobs instead of writing exams for every single post. The scores gained by each of the candidates will be the determining factor on the type of posts and grades on which they will be selected for.

The Staff Selection Commission has proposed this system to the government in order to reform the government recruitment system. The Staff Selection Commission has suggested a GRE type walk in process for the Common Screening Test. This will enable the candidates to appear in the process countless times. The SSC’s Common Screening Test scores will also have validity for more than a period of 2 years.

The SSC Chairman Mr. NK.Raghupathy commented on the Common Screening Test by saying that the graduates appearing the exam will have an advantage and will not have to even appear in the UPSC CSAT. If properly implemented, the candidates can be shortlisted from the Common Screening Test scores for the Civil service Main exam. Whether the candidates are aspiring to become an IAS officer or even a Clerk in any of the government department, the Common Screening Test will be the deciding factor.

The Common Screening Test is a thought out effort to make Staff Selection Commission’s recruitment process more efficient and simple. The candidate’s ability to score high mark will be able to get higher profile jobs like the IAS and candidates scoring average marks will be selected for other lower level jobs. The scores will be the ultimate factor which is utilized for screening candidates for all government sectors, PSUs, banks and other organizations.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is considered to be the leading recruitment agency in the country for government jobs. The UPSC is the main authority which selects the candidates for most of the high profile gazette jobs. The Staff Selection Commission on the other hand is more concentrated towards recruiting candidates from the lower division clerk to the top most jobs in the hierarchy like the CBI sub-inspectors and Customs Inspectors.

Purpose of Common Screening Test

The Staff Selection Commission’s, Common Screening Test will definitely make the recruitment process more trouble free on the aspirants as well as the authority as the number of government jobs are increasing on a larger number.  The coming fiscal year the Staff Selection Commission is expecting to recruit more than 25000 people. This will double the last year’s figure. The expected number of applicants for the 25000 posts in the SSC is to be around 64 lakh applicants.

The Staff Selection Commission’s officials reported that there is statistical evidence which put forward the opinion that each candidate will apply for different jobs and will appear in various screening tests in the entire process. This will definitely put an unnecessary pressure on the entire recruitment system and also on the applicants.

The Staff Selection Commission plans to set up an apex body as to endorse private and public departments which will carry out the Common Screening Test all over the country. This will include various levels like the metric level, higher secondary and graduate level. This new Common Screening Test system is expected to reduce the recruitment cycle by at least 3 months. This test will definitely benefit the students as it will make the entire process of recruitment simpler and hassle free by implementing one screening exam for countless government jobs.

Implementation of Common Screening Test

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Common Screening Test has already been implemented in to practice by the Delhi staff Selection Commission for 19 Post categories. The commission has held the Common Screening Test as to short list the applicants for different jobs and the exam was for duration of two hours. Some of the post for which the exam were carried out included, ACIO Grade-I (WIRELESS), ACIO, Grade-I (TECH), Assistant Photographer Group ‘C’, Central Intelligence Officer–II (Electronic Data Processing), Cipher Operator, Data Entry Operator (Grade-A), Data Entry Operator (Grade-B), Library Clerk, Modeller, Research Investigator Grade-II, Sectional Officer (Horticulture), Stenographer Grade-C, Taxidermist Grade-III, Technical Clerk (Statistics) and Wireless Operator.

All the candidates who had applied for these posts had been called in for the Common Screening Test only if they were found to be eligible. Before applying the candidates will have to ensure that they posses essential qualification for the posts. The candidates must also be eligible according to the age limit along with other criterions required for the particular post as per the notification for the Common Screening Test. This will help them to stay away from rejection at any particular stage in the selection process. Unless and otherwise the candidates will have to take the Common Screening Test at their own peril.

The candidate wishing to apply for more than one post in the mentioned list will only get a single admission certificate. This certificate will have the list of all the post to which the candidate have applied for. From this list only the candidate will get shortlisted for the next round of the recruitment. If incase the admission certificate is missed out from any of the post the candidate have indented to apply, then an immediate intimation should be made to the Regional Director of the Staff Selection commission, New Delhi. The intimation must be made through Speed post and should mention the mission post categories along with a photocopy of the application as a documentary proof. The candidates must also super-scribe the Roll number on the top of the envelope.

Common Screening Test Syllabus and Pattern

The Common Screening Test will be given a total time of 2 hours. The question paper will be of objective type. The Common Screening Test will include various subjects like English Language, General Awareness, General Intelligence and Arithmetic. The numbers of questions are equally divided between each of the section with 50 questions in each section. The total number of question in the Common Screening Test will be 200. The admission certificate will be sent to the candidate’s official address and also the candidates are given an option to download the duplicate copy of the admission certificate from the official website.

    I am very happy to hear that, SSC is coming with such a great proposal. At the same time I would like to appeal to SSC to increase the Maximum Age limit from 27 years to 35 years for General Category.
