Paper pattern

The paper is divided into ten main questions. These questions have further sub-divisions. There is no compulsory question as such. The candidate is given a choice in very questions. Every question has two divisions and the candidate has to choose from one of the two. The questions that are given as a choice have to be answered briefly.

Distribution of marks

The total marks of the paper are 100. The marks are unevenly divided among the questions. The marks that are allotted to each question depend on its length and importance. Single questions carry five marks. The first question caries 5 marks, the second question has 10 marks. The third and the fourth carry 15 and 10 marks respectively. The fourth and fifth question carry 10 marks each. The marks allotted for sixth, seventh and eight questions are 10, 12 and 15 respectively. The ninth and the tenth question have 5 and 8 marks to offer.

Duration of the paper

A total of 3 hours is allotted to each candidate for writing the exam. Before the start of exam, an extra 15 minutes is given to each candidate for reading the paper carefully. In these 15 minutes the candidate is required to read the paper quickly and to clarify any doubts. This time should be used wisely.

About the subject

The subject is mainly about Hindi literature. There are Sanskrit verses that the candidate is expected to translate in Hindi and in his own words. The paper covers every aspect of Hindi literature right from verses to poetry to short stories. The subject mainly lays emphasis on grasping the subject. The practices like make sentences, translation, explanation and question and answer require a sound knowledge of Hindi language. The grammatical aspect is also checked so that the candidate has a sound knowledge of grammar as well.
