English (Paper 1) comes under the elective language category of the Tamil Nadu Board Higher Secondary Examinations. English is quite interesting subject and is a compulsory paper for many entrance exams.

Division of Paper:

The paper is divided in five sections. Section A is the vocabulary section. Section B is the grammatical section. Section C comprises the reading section. Section D is the literary section containing prose while the Section E is the poetry section

Time allotted for the examination and marks:

The total time allotted for the examination is three hours and the maximum marks for the paper are 100.

The Paper Pattern:

The instructions are given on the first page to write down question number on the given margin. The paper consists of five sections. Section A is the vocabulary section contains 23 questions of which some are multiple choice type. Section B is the grammatical section containing 15 questions. Section C which is the reading section has passage and the total no. of questions is 10. Section D is the writing section or prose section having 6 questions. Section E is the poetry section having 15 questions which are to be answered according to it.
