The ability to communicate with one another is the basic thing that separates human beings with animals. On top of this, the capacity to understand each other in walk, talk and actions distinguishes one person to the other.

In fact, one needs to be fully equipped with good manners and etiquette to socially interact with one other. Communicating verbally requires all these skills to become a successful social being. This is very much important in the improvement in work, studies and relationships.

Here are some tips on how to develop your communication skills:

Know what communication really is

The process through which a person communicates and interacts with another is called as Communication. It can also be said as the way one uses to establish as well as modify relationships.

Manifest constructive attitudes and beliefs.

The attitude of a person when speaking with a person will mark the impact on that particular relationship. You must be honest, sincere, modest and patient. It will also be good if you are optimistic and respectful. Always try to accept people the way they are. On top of this, being sensitive to the feeling of others will earn you some good friends.

Make eye contact.

Always make eye contact when you speak. This shows that you are confident and have nothing to be guilty or afraid about. Besides this, eye contact is a sign of genuine interest and will encourage your friends to respond to you in return. In less personalized circumstances like meetings or seminars, holding eye contact with a few members of the audience will help to keep the matter you are talking about personalized and will maintain their attention.

Be aware of what your body is saying.

Body language is another component that does the talking for you. Every movement you make will tell something about the person you are to others. Standing casually with a smile on your face will tell others that you are approachable. Often, communication can be stopped even before it begins by the language of the body by standing in a disinterested manner. By the way, this isn’t that good. Only through appropriate posture in addition to an approachable stance will communication flow comfortably.

Have courage to say what you think!

Always be confident and say what you think. But you can take a minute or two to think about what you are going to talk about. It does not pay if you are talking to hurt anyone. Take in consideration of the feelings of others. Make sure that what you say does not injure the minds of others around you. In fact, you must be strong when you wish to convey what you feel is right to others. There is no reason to hesitate. Those who hesitate will not make to their point easily, unlike those who talk out frankly. Besides this, having the courage to talk about what you think will give you the chance to learn about more things.

Speak clearly enough to be heard.

It is okay to be meek. But this is not so okay in all circumstances. You must speak out in a loud and understandable manner. People don’t give a person too many chances if they think that he is meek. They might think that that person is lacking the ability to do a work responsibly. Be confident. Let others know that you are confident and nothing can daunt you. Always use appropriate inflections so that your listeners can understand exactly what you are talking about. This will reduce the possibility of misunderstanding amongst your peers.

Practice

It is important that you talk without stuttering in front of people. You can practice your communication skills in a range from casual and social to more professional. Every new skill takes its own time to become refined. The same is true for the case here. Don’t be sad if you are unable to take it in all at once. Not only will this open new opportunities for yourself, but also it will give you good scope for future partnerships.

Develop effective listening skills

There’s one thing everyone should remember. Communication does not mean just talking effectively. It also means having the ability to listen patiently and understand.  Never interrupt a person when he or she is talking. More than embarrassing this is dreadful manners.
